Facility Attendant Lead (2nd Shift)

Schedule: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt. Mon-Fri 3pm-11pm, occasional weekends may be required.

The Lead Facility Attendant helps ensure Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is clean, welcoming, safe, and ready for our guests, employees, and events. Working on second shift, this position combines hands-on facility care and event setup with day-to-day leadership and coordination of the Facility Attendant team.
You’ll help organize work assignments, respond to changing operational needs, support and guide team members, coordinate event setups, and serve as an important connection between staff and management. This is an active, hands-on lead role for someone who enjoys working alongside a team while helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

As a Lead, you’ll help coordinate that work during second shift, provide direction and support to team members, and ensure important information and priorities carry smoothly from one shift to the next.
What You’ll Do
Lead & Support the Team
- Provide day-to-day direction, training, guidance, and support to Facility Attendants during assigned shifts.
- Assess priorities and adjust work assignments to address absences, special requests, events, projects, and changing operational needs.
- Serve as a liaison between staff and management, communicating performance, policy, operational, and interdepartmental matters as appropriate.
Maintain Exceptional Facilities
- Clean and maintain assigned building and grounds areas while helping monitor overall facility needs during the shift.
- Perform a variety of cleaning and facility-care activities, including restroom sanitation, trash removal, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, carpet cleaning, floor scrubbing, and window washing.
- Ensure assigned work is completed accurately and efficiently while maintaining high standards for cleanliness, service, and environmental stewardship.
Coordinate Events & Setup
- Review event details and diagrams and help coordinate accurate, timely setups with other departments.
- Safely set up, move, assemble, and disassemble tables, chairs, staging, AV equipment, décor, rental equipment, and exhibition materials.
- Provide direction and hands-on support to event setup staff to ensure spaces are prepared safely and according to event requirements.
Keep Operations Moving
- Respond to changing priorities, operational needs, and unexpected issues with sound judgment and a service-oriented approach.
- Complete and finalize daily checklists and provide accurate shift-transition information to the following team.
- Use computers and technology for routine operational and administrative responsibilities and assist team members with basic technology needs.
Support a Safe & Welcoming Environment
- Interact professionally and positively with guests, employees, contractors, and other departments.
- Follow applicable event safety practices, fire codes, ADA requirements, and established procedures.
- Demonstrate responsible stewardship through appropriate use of cleaning products, proper waste disposal, and efforts to reduce unnecessary waste.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial or professional cleaning and/or related event setup experience.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license without restrictions.
- Ability to understand, follow, and provide verbal and written directions.
- Ability to safely move, assemble, and disassemble event equipment and materials.
- Strong organization, time management, communication, problem-solving, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to prioritize work, adapt to changing needs, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic working knowledge of computers and business applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous event setup experience.
- Light-duty facility maintenance experience.
- Previous lead, supervisory, or people-management experience.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Familiarity with staging, seating arrangements, AV equipment, décor installation, event safety protocols, fire codes, and ADA requirements.

Working Conditions: This is an active, hands-on position that works primarily indoors but regularly moves throughout offices, public spaces, grounds, and exhibition areas and may require outdoor work in varying or inclement weather conditions. The role involves extended periods of standing and walking, frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and other physical activity associated with cleaning, facility operations, and event setup.
Physical Requirements: The position requires regularly lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds and frequently handling heavier equipment and materials weighing up to 100 pounds, as well as occasionally ascending or descending ladders to access equipment or storage. The work environment can be fast-paced and requires flexibility, physical stamina, attention to surroundings, and the ability to respond to changing operational and event needs.
