Position Description:
Under the direction of the Child Care Director, this position is responsible for the supervision of the children in the center 2 -13 years of age. Assist with educational, recreational, nutritional, and disciplinary components of the program. Maintain a safe, healthy, non-threatening, and positive environment. Interact with children at their level, maintain required records, and perform opening and closing procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Guide children’s behavior in a positive and supporting manner leading to increased independence.
- Plan, schedule, implement, and supervise the daily program of appropriate developmental experiences for a classroom group of children that meets our center policies as well as state and Youngstar guidelines.
- Provides care and protection for assigned children and maintains state required ratios.
- Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
- Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning and in imaginative play.
- Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, and safety.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
- Observe and evaluate children’s performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Ensure necessary documentation is complete such as daily sheets, meal counts, sign in/out sheets, accident reports, lesson plans, etc.
- Keep all areas of the center clean and sanitary to maintain infection control and orderly, pleasant surroundings.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, conferences, workshops, and other career development and professional activities.
- Meets yearly continuing education requirements.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary classroom for children to thrive.
- Maintains good attendance and is flexible to work within the hours of operation.
- Provides quality customer service to children and parents, greeting them by name when they enter and maintaining confidentiality.
- Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
- Incorporate new methods or policies into existing practice.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
Physical Requirements:
- Moves intermittently throughout the workday.
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to sit, stand, squat, bend, twist, walk, push, pull, and move at a fast pace.
Special Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous experience working with children preferred.
- Must have patience, understanding, and enjoy working with children.
- Certification from WI Early Childhood professional recognition, First Aid, and CPR/AED required (will train if necessary).
- Must complete and pass a background check.
- Must complete and pass a pre-employment physical and TB test.
