Position Summary:
The Permitting & Materials Specialist is responsible for coordinating all permitting activities and managing material planning for residential solar and roofing projects. This position ensures projects remain on schedule by preparing and submitting permit applications, tracking approvals, coordinating inspections, and ensuring all installation materials are accurately planned, allocated, and ready for field crews.

Essential Responsibilities Permitting:
- Prepare, review, and submit permit applications to local municipalities, utility companies, and state agencies for residential solar and roofing installations.
- Ensure permit packages are complete, accurate, and meet jurisdiction-specific requirements.
- Coordinate zoning documentation and property owner support when required.
- Track permitting progress and maintain communication with local jurisdictions regarding permit status, inspection requirements, lead times, and design specifications.
- Schedule and monitor inspections as required.
- Maintain accurate permitting records and documentation.
- Update project statuses in JobNimbus and communicate permit approvals, delays, or issues to internal stakeholders.
- Partner with Operations, CAD, Project Coordinators, and Construction teams to prioritize permitting activities and meet installation schedules.
Materials Coordination:
- Create and manage material pick tickets for scheduled installations.
- Review project designs, system sizes, and equipment requirements to develop accurate material lists.
- Coordinate with warehouse personnel to ensure materials are picked, staged, and available before scheduled installations.
- Work closely with Purchasing to identify shortages and initiate procurement when necessary.
- Communicate with Field Operations regarding material needs, project changes, and installation readiness.
- Track and resolve material discrepancies, substitutions, and inventory issues.
- Maintain accuracy within inventory management systems, including material allocations and status updates.
- Assist in developing and maintaining standardized Bills of Materials (BOMs) for common system configurations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to permitting workflows and material planning.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain organized project documentation and records.
- Provide proactive updates on project milestones and potential delays.
- Assist with additional administrative and operational tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in permitting, construction coordination, materials management, logistics, or solar operations preferred.
- Solar industry experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and building plans.
- Experience with inventory management systems (Inflow or similar) and project management software such as JobNimbus or comparable CRM platforms.
- Understanding of residential solar components, including modules, inverters, racking systems, and balance-of-system materials.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business software.

- Frequent sitting, standing, and walking throughout the workday.
- Frequent computer and keyboard use.
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, squatting, and reaching.
