Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced 2nd Shift Weld Shop Working Lead to join our manufacturing team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee daily welding operations, ensuring that fabrication processes meet quality standards and safety protocols. As a leader on the shop floor, you will coordinate welding activities, mentor team members, and uphold production efficiency during the second shift. Your mechanical knowledge, welding expertise, and leadership skills will drive the success of our metal fabrication projects, supporting our commitment to delivering high-quality products on time.
Duties
- Supervise and coordinate welding activities during the 2nd shift, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and production schedules
- Lead by example in welding tasks including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) to maintain high-quality standards
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to guide team work and ensure precise metal fabrication
- Utilize measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and shop math to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy in sheet metal and pipe fabrication
- Operate power tools, plasma cutters, soldering equipment, and machining tools for metal cutting, assembly, and fabrication tasks
- Enforce safety protocols across the shop floor, promoting a safe working environment for all team members
- Assist with training team members on welding techniques, measuring instruments, and proper use of hand tools to foster skill development
Qualifications
- Proven experience in metal fabrication or welding shop environment with a strong understanding of construction site practices
- Skilled in various welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, and gas metal arc welding; familiarity with welding standards preferred
- Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings accurately; experience interpreting technical drawings essential
- Proficient in using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and shop math for precise measurements
- Mechanical knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, pipe threading, ductwork assembly, and metal materials handling
- Experience with fabrication shop operations including machining, plasma cutting, soldering, and assembly processes
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise a team effectively during a shift; excellent communication skills required
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to welding operations and metal fabrication environments; adherence to OSHA standards preferred
- Basic math skills necessary for shop calculations; familiarity with American Welding Society (AWS) standards advantageous
