Position Summary
The Commercial HVAC Retrofit Foreman is responsible for directing day-to-day field operations on commercial HVAC retrofit projects. This position leads installation crews, coordinates manpower and subcontractors, maintains project schedules, and ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and company quality standards. The Foreman serves as the primary field leader, working closely with project management, superintendents, and customers to deliver successful projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise commercial HVAC retrofit installation crews on active construction projects.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate daily field activities to maximize productivity and maintain project schedules.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, submittals, and project documents.
- Develop and maintain rolling three-week look-ahead schedules and coordinate manpower requirements.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and General Foremen to ensure successful project execution.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment, subcontractors, and project startup activities.
- Perform material takeoffs and verify all required materials are available before installation begins.
- Conduct daily quality control inspections to ensure work meets company standards, project specifications, and applicable building codes.
- Enforce OSHA regulations and company safety policies while promoting a strong safety culture.
- Mentor, train, and develop journeymen and apprentices to improve technical skills and leadership abilities.
- Maintain open communication with customers, General Contractors, project teams, and field personnel regarding project progress and jobsite needs.
- Identify field challenges early and implement solutions to minimize delays and maximize productivity.
- Complete required reports, documentation, and field communication accurately and on time.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of commercial HVAC construction experience, including commercial retrofit projects.
- Previous experience leading and supervising crews of 15 or more field employees.
- Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping systems, and retrofit installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documents.
- Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and commercial construction safety practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining project schedules and quality standards.
- Proficient with material planning, manpower scheduling, and project coordination.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing large commercial retrofit projects in occupied facilities.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and trade partners.
- Strong understanding of project scheduling and construction sequencing.
- Experience mentoring apprentices and developing future field leaders.
Work Environment
This position works primarily on active commercial construction and retrofit jobsites. Work may involve indoor and outdoor environments, rooftops, mechanical rooms, elevated work areas, and varying weather conditions. Candidates should be comfortable working in physically demanding environments while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and construction equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
