Location:
ACE High School, Reno, Nevada
Position Type:
Full-Time, 185-day employment agreement (August 5 – June 5)
About ACE High School:
ACE High School is Nevada's premier Career and Technical Education (CTE) charter school, setting the benchmark for Construction Technology programs statewide. Our mission is to prepare students in grades 9–12 for successful careers in the construction and trades industries through rigorous academic instruction and hands-on, project-based experiences. ACE students have built 10 semi-custom residential homes, tiny homes, a sales office, sheds, affordable housing units, and other large-scale projects. The 9th grade program serves as the foundational entry point into ACE's construction pathway, where students begin their journey in the trades.
Position Overview:
The 9th Grade CTE Industry Pathways Shop Teacher will deliver ACE's introductory exploration course, providing students with foundational knowledge and hands-on skills across a broad range of construction and trades disciplines. This is not a traditional lecture-based class—students learn through doing, using real tools and equipment in an integrated shop environment to complete meaningful projects.
Course content covers woodworking, carpentry, sheet metal fabrication, small engine mechanics, machining, architectural drawings, construction math (fractions, measurement, and reading a tape measure accurately), and more. Students will earn their OSHA 10 certification and develop safe, competent use of a wide range of tools including chop saws, table saws, planers, drill presses, hand tools, and power tools.
Past student projects have included building locker shelves, personal sign boards, cutting boards, tool boxes from sheet metal, sheds, and small community or school projects. Students have also torn down and reassembled small engines and used manual lathes to create hand-turned ink pens.
The 9th grade program is the foundational experience through which ACE students explore the trades and identify which advanced program they will pursue beginning in 10th grade. The instructor plays a vital role in sparking student interest, building strong foundational skills, and preparing students to succeed in ACE's upper-level construction pathway programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach daily sections of the 9th Grade CTE Industry Pathways course in an integrated shop classroom environment.

- Assess student learning through assignments, quizzes, projects, and exams; maintain accurate records in Infinite Campus.
- Create a safe, respectful, and engaging shop environment with clear safety protocols and expectations.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and ACE staff regarding academic progress and behavior.
