The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition seeks a qualified, committed educator to join our team of classroom and community bicycle/pedestrian safety educators. This is a part-time position. While the majority of education takes place during the school day, on school campuses throughout the county, evening and weekend events may also be required.
Position Duties:
- Prepare and teach pedestrian and/or bicycle safety classroom lessons and/or assemblies at elementary and middle schools, utilizing effective teaching strategies and positive behavioral management techniques.
- Work as part of a bike educator team to prepare for, set up, and lead groups of youth at school day bicycle safety & skills courses.
- Conduct education/encouragement outreach at community events
- Manage classroom/on-bike teaching necessities (curriculum materials, gear, equipment safety protocols, calendar) required for successful implementation of classroom and on-bicycle lessons.
- Communicate frequently with school site staff and Education Program Manager re: scheduling, classroom visits, and post-visit evaluation.
- Support development of curriculum, neighborhood safety walk route maps, and other Safe Routes to School program resources.
Experience and Qualifications:
A successful candidate will likely have teaching experience or experience leading youth programs, including the following qualifications:
A genuine passion for active transportation and the benefits of walking and bicycling to health, the environment, and our community.
- Classroom or outdoor education experience teaching youth
- Detail oriented, well organized, and responsive
- Strong communication skills: articulate, with proven ability to write effectively and speak in front of groups
- Willingness and ability to take initiative, but also to follow the lead
- Demonstrated ability to respect and support the work of fellow team members, as well as with community members of differing racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds
- Experience with bicycling for transportation and/or recreation
- Comfort & experience utilizing technology including but not limited to MS Word and Powerpoint/Google Slides.
- Spanish language skills (desired, but not required)
- College degree preferred

Other Requirements:
- Must have reliable vehicle and proof of insurance for regular work-related travel throughout Sonoma County (travel mileage is reimbursed)
- Ability to carry or move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and work outside in inclement weather
4. Successful candidates will require TB screening, fingerprints, and proof of COVID vaccination.

COMPENSATION
This is a part time position. The salary range for this position is $24-27 per hour.
