General Description and Objectives
A Maintenance Technician will support plant operations by performing routine preventative/predictive maintenance to maximize equipment uptime, and production, while maintaining general upkeep, quality and safety standards for a paper converting manufacturing facility. Converting equipment includes but is not limited to folders, laminators, re-winders, and core machines.
Primary Responsibilities
- Trouble-shoot mechanical, electrical and PLC issues with equipment.
- Operate the following: MIG Welder, Plasma Cutter, Torch, Jet Milling Machine, Lathes.
- Respond to operator, quality, or management requests regarding equipment specifications.
- Communicate with fellow maintenance teammates at shift changes regarding current/active:
- Safety issues
- Quality issues
- Production issues
- Understand and comply with Facility & Converting Reliability Manager and VP of Operations directions and guidelines, including:
- Product-specific quality requirements
- Production targets and machine capabilities
- Communicate regularly with Facility & Converting Reliability Manager and VP of Operations regarding production status.
- Support production staffing needs.
- Reliable resource for all set up’s, change over’s and trials.
- Regular safety observance (includes facility, machines, and industrial trucks).
- Accountable for quality assurance.
- Perform frequent machine and product inspections, including trouble-shooting machine issues.
- Evaluate shift for regular continuous improvement proposals.
- Control and evaluate waste.
- Ensure facility and machine housekeeping guidelines are followed; be trained and certified in the operation of powered industrial trucks fire extinguisher use.
- Perform routine maintenance around the facility such as plumbing, electrical, grounds keeping, and carpentry.
- Complete documentation on repairs and preventative maintenance as directed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Must be 18 or older.
- Must have high school diploma, or G.E.D.
- Industrial Maintenance experience in a paper industry production environment is preferred.
- Associates degree in industrial maintenance, machining technology, or related field a plus.
- Ability to read and understand machine manuals.
- Proficiency on a PC including Microsoft Office is a plus.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Possess strong problem solving skills and ability to think outside the box to drive production improvement.
- Strong attention to detail and time management.
- Positive attitude with a solid team mentality.
- Strong work ethic with an exceptional ability to learn and a desire to continuously improve.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse work environment.
- Attendance is an essential function of employment and part of the job requirement.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed.
- Capable of standing 8-12 hours. Ability to work on projects that require standing for extended periods, using hands/fingers to handle/feel, reaching with hands/arms, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and/or lifting 50 pounds, often in hot environments.
