Title: Choir Director.
Position Description: Choir Director for the music ministry of Catalina United Methodist Church (CUMC). Works under the supervision of the Director of Music. Part Time. Exempt.
Qualifications:
· Conducting experience required.
· Knowledge of choral literature.
· Bachelor’s degree in music preferred.
· Openness to various styles, traditions of music, as well as music from a wide range of cultures.
· Ability to work with a range of accompanists and musicians.
· Experience working collaboratively with staff members and volunteers.
· Demonstrates an ability to teach voice and choral music.
Preferred:
· Experience organizing and directing additional ensembles (brass, small orchestra, etc.), either with or without the choir.
· Ability to use piano skills to support rehearsals and music preparation as needed.
· Openness to organizing and directing additional programs, concerts, or concert series.
· Commitment to improving skills and creativity through career growth and/or active membership in professional organizations.
· Dedication to stay professionally current in choral literature and to continuously learn and expand their repertoire.
· Ability to cultivate relationships among the choir members, church staff, and members of the congregation.
Responsibilities:
· Works with the Director of Music to select and schedule choral music in coordination with worship plans, preaching texts, and themes established in collaboration with the Pastors.
· Directs the choir for Sunday morning worship services and special services such as Good Friday, memorials, Christmas Eve, and other occasions as needed.
· Works effectively with the choir, soloists, and ensembles.
· Schedules concerts and rehearsals in collaboration with the Music Director, Office Administrator, and if needed, the Senior Pastor.
· Secures substitute(s) for approved absences.
· Provides leadership and support for the choir during Sunday worship services, including Sundays when the choir is not presenting an anthem.
· Prepares and organizes rehearsal materials for choir rehearsals and worship services.

Supervision:
· The Director of Music directly supervises the Choir Director and both report to the Senior Pastor. They are all accountable to the CUMC Leadership Board.
Compensation:
· The Choir Director is a salaried employee. The base salary range is 12- 13 K annually (BOE).
· Thursday (weekly) rehearsals are generally not scheduled between June and mid-August.
· The Choir Director may take up to four (4) Sundays off, approved in advance and aligned with the requirements of the Employee Handbook.
· The Choir Director is responsible for finding volunteer substitute conductor when away on these Sundays. CUMC pays the substitute conductor, if a volunteer is unavailable.
· The Choir Director is encouraged to utilize the vast library of choral music (1,500 – 1,600 anthems). Music may be purchased under the authority of the Director of Music.
The Choir Director may utilize the church facilities for private instruction, provided this neither interferes with nor conflicts with the church programs.
Pay: $12,000.00 - $13,000.00 per year
