A 7-month postdoc position is available to work on funded NSF project, “Collaborative Research: NSFGEO-NERC: The history of the Earth's magnetic field strength over the last five million years: Filling in the southern hemisphere gap”. The position is in the Department of Geological Sciences, under the direction of Dr. Courtney Sprain. The candidate will be responsible for conducting 40Ar/39Ar geochronological analyses at the UF Argon Geochronology Lab in addition to conducting paleointensity experiments at the UF Neil Opdyke Paleomagnetism laboratory.
We seek candidates with expertise in both high-precision 40Ar/39Ar geochronology and paleomagnetism. In the project, the candidate will use the IsotopX NGX noble gas mass spectrometer, and experience with this instrument is preferred.
