The Roselle Park District needs you!
The Special Event Coordinator is responsible for developing, planning, and organizing special events for the district. These events are Community events, approximately 12 events/year, average 50-200 attendees. A larger event in the fall with approximately 3000 attendees. The Coordinator oversees some of the special events and supervises the special event staff to ensure the events that are offered are run at high quality.
Around 15-20 hours/week; Events are mainly nights and weekends, with flexible planning hours during work week.
$20-$25/hour DOQ. Benefits include free individual fitness center pass, free individual pool pass, 25% off programs; certain restrictions apply.
Upcoming Events responsible for (community-focused): Founder's Day, Zombie Fun Run/Wagon Rides, Polar Express, Holiday Wagon Rides, Daddy/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Event, Summer Concert Series, and other events depending on programming.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- A working knowledge of special events and appropriate activities for all ages.
- Demonstrates ability to make good judgments and be aware of immediate surroundings.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Must be self-motivated and responsible.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate in English verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with residents, staff and job responsibilities under stressful conditions.
- Must be able to respond to and handle children's behaviors in a positive appropriate manner.
- CPR/First Aid certification required; CPR must be completed with 30 days of start date.
- Able to work outside in warm/hot weather.
- Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
- Must be energetic and possess the ability to manage a group of participants in a manner that encourages social growth, safety and fun.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:
- Develops a plan for each special event. These plans must represent recreational activities that are age appropriate.
- Assists in organizing and structuring large and small group activities.
- Sets up and participates in special events, as needed.
- May assist in clean up after activities and at the end of the day.
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, and supervisors.
- Enforces safety rules during events.
- Prepares special event department budget.
- Secures contracts and certificates of insurance when applicable from vendors and independent contractors.
- Demonstrates a mature and professional attitude through dependability, punctuality, and genuine awareness.
- Treats public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention. Is courteous at all cases.
- Presents a clean, pleasant appearance and displays a positive, enthusiastic and professional manner.
- Complete accident report forms when necessary.
- Notifies the Superintendent of Recreation of problems or concerns with individual participants or staff members.
- May perform other duties as required.
- Administers first aid to staff and participants, as needed.
- Attends required meetings, training and special events as required.
- Encourages positive peer relationships within your group.
- Demonstrates a mature and professional attitude through dependability, punctuality, and genuine awareness.
