Job Description:
The Dental Assistant supports a high‑volume clinical setting by providing chairside assistance, patient care, sterilization, inventory management, and administrative support. This role works closely with dentists and dental students during general and specialized procedures, as well as in simulation and instructional settings. The Dental Assistant plays a key role in maintaining efficient clinic operations, ensuring a positive patient experience, and supporting daily workflow and logistics.
Essential Functions:
Assist dentists and dental students in provision of dental care to patients with four-handed dentistry.
Expose dental radiographs utilizing either standard or digital radiology equipment.
Maintain dental supply inventory of equipment, instruments, and supplies.
Contribute to the operation of the Sterilization and Dispensary Inventory System.
Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and equipment used in the dental clinics.
Maintain and perform basic repairs to dental and laboratory equipment; report major malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
Check out and distribute instruments and equipment to dentists and dental residents using the university instrument tracking system.
Handle and dispose of sharps or hazardous materials according to established University, State, and federal OSHA standards.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited dental assistant program and minimum one year of work experience as a dental assistant preferred, or any combination of education, experience and training which provides the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
Experience with different digital radiographic formats.
X-ray Certification
