House Manager (part-time)
The House Manager is a versatile role that reports to the Venue Rental Manager. This individual supports smooth event operations, oversees audience experience, and provides excellent customer service throughout performances and rentals. The role focuses on managing front-of-house logistics, coordinating with staff and volunteers, and ensuring a welcoming, well-run environment for all patrons. This position is a great fit for individuals with backgrounds in hospitality, guest services, or other customer-focused industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure smooth operation of lobby, auditorium, restrooms, and public areas during events and performances.
- Direct ushers and bartenders and communicate with tech and stage personnel regarding show timings, intermissions, and other event details, including giving a pre-performance briefing for ushers.
- Handle patron concerns and resolve complaints courteously and efficiently.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness of facilities, performing light cleaning tasks and removing trash when needed. This also includes stocking and cleaning of restrooms as needed.
- Manage usher assignments based on skill levels and provide guidance during events.
- Submit event reports, monitor attendance, and ensure bar supplies are adequately stocked.
- Work with facility staff to address maintenance, parking, or emergency situations, including filling out accident/incident reports due to accidents or injury. Interfacing with police/rescue workers if the situation requires.
- Assist with post-event clean-up, including washing dishes and removing linens.
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
- Strong customer service experience and ability to maintain a positive attitude in varied situations.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and attend team meetings.
- Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to motivate and supervise volunteers.
- Familiarity with iOS and POS systems.
- Physically able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. and perform tasks involving bending, twisting, and quick movements. Twisting, turning, and being able to navigate sloped surfaces in the dark during a performance is a requirement.
- Calm and level-headed in stressful situations.
- Must pass a background check and sign a confidentiality agreement.
Recommended Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the Wilson Center and the Greater Milwaukee-area arts scene.
- CPR certification.
Part-Time/Hourly: This is a part-time, flexible position, with a pay rate of $20/hour. Hours vary depending on availability and the number of events scheduled. The employee may be assigned to bartend for certain events or to manage the house during others, depending on staffing needs.
