Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to join our team in a PRN (as needed) capacity in the home healthcare setting. As a Physical Therapy Assistant, you will work closely with our team of healthcare professionals to provide high-quality rehabilitative care to our homebound patients. Your role will be essential in assisting our patients in achieving their functional goals and improving their overall quality of life.
Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Work collaboratively with the supervising Physical Therapist to implement individualized treatment plans for patients in the home health care setting.
- Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, gait training, mobility training, and activities of daily living.
- Monitor and record patients' progress, including changes in functional abilities, vital signs, and pain levels.
Rehabilitation Services:
- Administer therapeutic modalities and interventions, such as heat/cold therapy, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound, as prescribed by the Physical Therapist.
- Instruct patients and their caregivers on proper techniques for exercises and home exercise programs to ensure continuity of care.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient treatments, progress, and responses to therapy interventions.
- Submit timely progress reports and collaborate with the Physical Therapist to adjust treatment plans as needed.
Safety and Infection Control:
- Adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for patient care.
- Evaluate the home environment for potential hazards and make appropriate recommendations for modifications to enhance patient safety.
Communication:
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers to provide education and support regarding the treatment plan and home care recommendations.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, physicians, and occupational therapists, to optimize patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education and Licensure:
- Completion of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
- Current and valid state licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
Experience:
- Prior experience in a home health care setting is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with various therapeutic interventions commonly used in physical therapy.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach with a commitment to delivering the highest standard of care.
Organizational Skills:
- Strong organizational skills to manage patient schedules, documentation, and treatment plans effectively.
Flexibility:
- Ability to work in a PRN capacity, adjusting availability based on patient caseload and organizational needs.
