Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing various surgical procedures within a fast-paced hospital environment. Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all sterile equipment and supplies are ready for scheduled surgeries, adhering strictly to aseptic techniques.
- Assist surgeons and surgical teams during procedures by providing necessary instruments, managing tissue handling, and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Monitor patient vital signs continuously throughout surgery, promptly addressing any deviations or complications.
- Administer medications and anesthesia as directed by physicians, ensuring proper documentation in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Conduct thorough preoperative assessments and postoperative evaluations to ensure patient stability and comfort.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiologists, radiology staff (such as CT), laboratory personnel, and other healthcare providers.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and hospital policies.
- Support infection control protocols and participate in quality improvement initiatives related to surgical safety.
- Provide patient education regarding perioperative procedures, recovery expectations, and post-discharge care plans.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with advances in surgical nursing practices and emerging technologies.
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state licensure; additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Proven OR experience with proficiency in sterile processing, suturing, IV infusion, airway management, and specimen collection.
- Experience working within hospital settings that utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Familiarity with specialized procedures including cardiology catheterization, dialysis access management, trauma medicine, ICU protocols, and infectious disease care.
- Knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding for billing purposes, and medical terminology relevant to perioperative care.
- Prior experience in high-acuity environments such as Level I or Level II trauma centers preferred.
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to respond effectively during emergency situations like acute pain episodes or neonatal resuscitation procedures.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education, team collaboration, and documentation accuracy.
- Additional experience in ophthalmology surgery, long-term care settings (including memory care or assisted living), or home & community care is advantageous.
