RN Blue Prince Clinic and Public Health
The Registered Nurse in the clinic setting will:
- Provide direct patient care within the ambulatory setting, based on the nursing process and within the role/scope of practice.
- Assist with daily patient flow by performing patient check-in and preparing the patient for visit with the Provider.
- Review the patient appointment list for the following day in order to prepare for specific needs during the appointment (i.e. surgical trays, special equipment, etc.)
- Assist the Provider with any procedure/examination as needed.
- Perform preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review and enter information into electronic and/or patient records as required.
- Utilize clinical decision-making and demonstrate appropriate use of other team members as appropriate.
- Utilize standards of nursing care and standards of practice to guide care delivery in the ambulatory setting.
- Work closely with physicians, supervisors and other health care team members to coordinate effective patient care.
- Accept accountability and use independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and other team members to whom care is delegated.
- Participate in orientation and training of new staff, provide guidance and direction to LPNs, MAs and other staff members.
- Administer vaccines, medications and other therapeutic aspects as ordered by the Provider.
- Enter patient information into various electronic systems, ensure adherence to healthcare policies and regulations and communicate urgent medical needs to other team members as needed.
- Works to assure knowledge and compliance with State and Federal programs within the Clinic including but not limited to Vaccines for Children, Breast and Cervical Cancer Program,
- Continue to develop and understanding of the grants which fund the health department and assure clinical compliance with same.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families and health care Providers ensuring clear communication and understanding of patient care plans.
- Develop and understanding of the financial aspects of the facility and the role of public health for the residents of the County
- The RN must be licensed in the state of West Virginia and maintain license in good standing.
The Registered Nurse in the Public Health setting
The Public Health Nurse is responsible for promoting and protecting the health of
populations using nursing knowledge as well as social and public health sciences. This
is accomplished through direct patient care, implementing educational programs for the
public, understanding public health policy and administering services.
Direct patient care for public health includes but is not limited to contacting patients
regarding communicable disease investigations, educating patients and families on
prevention of disease and documenting information in the appropriate data bases for
purposes of tracking and continuing research.
Duties include:
- Works to meet the mission of Public Health: Prevent, Protect, Promote
- Conduct community assessments and epidemiological surveys to identify community
- health needs
- Develop and implement health education programs and advocacy efforts for the
- community
- Collaborate with community partners to address social determinants of health
- Provided education to individuals, families and groups
- Monitor and assess community health status and trends
- Collaborate with local, state and federal partners in public health activities
- Support community efforts for individuals, families and groups which are targeted to
- improve health and well-being of the population.
- Complete investigations of communicable diseases to determine cause, intervention
- and prevention methods as needed.
- Participate in efforts related to disaster preparedness, prevention and intervention as needed.
