Resident Support Specialist – Evening Shift

Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 3:00 PM–9:00 PM
Hours: Approximately 24 hours per week

New Purpose House is a structured transitional housing and reentry program serving women who are rebuilding their lives following incarceration, treatment, and other significant life transitions.
Our program provides a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment while helping women work toward employment, financial stability, personal accountability, recovery, and successful transition to independent living.
Position Summary
New Purpose House is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and highly organized Resident Support Specialist – Evening Shift to provide resident services and maintain continuity of program operations after the daytime Lead Case Manager's shift ends.
This is not simply a residential monitoring position.
The Resident Support Specialist will provide evening resident support while also being trained and expected to handle referrals, screenings, resident intakes, admissions, orientations, resource coordination, documentation, and basic resident service needs during the evening shift.
The ideal candidate understands how to balance compassion with accountability and can maintain strong professional boundaries while supporting women navigating reentry and recovery.
Essential ResponsibilitiesEvening Resident Support
- Serve as the primary on-site staff contact during the evening shift.
- Provide direct support to residents and respond appropriately to resident concerns.
- Maintain a safe, structured, respectful, and supportive residential environment.
- Reinforce New Purpose House policies, curfew, community expectations, and resident responsibilities.
- Monitor resident needs and communicate significant concerns to the Lead Case Manager.
- Assist residents with identifying appropriate community resources.
- Encourage accountability, independence, and progress toward program goals.
- Address resident conflicts appropriately and utilize de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Ensure important information is communicated to the Lead Case Manager for follow-up the next business day.
Referrals, Screenings, Intakes & Admissions
The Resident Support Specialist will be trained and expected to:
- Receive prospective resident referrals during the evening shift.
- Communicate professionally with referral agencies and prospective residents.
- Log all referrals in Purpose Path.
- Conduct preliminary eligibility screenings.
- Collect required intake documentation and information.
- Complete resident intake and admission procedures.
- Review New Purpose House rules, program expectations, resident fees, savings requirements, and other program requirements.
- Obtain required signatures, acknowledgments, consents, and releases.
- Complete new resident orientation.
- Assist with room and bed assignment.
- Identify immediate needs upon admission.
- Initiate appropriate community resource referrals.
- Ensure completed admission documentation is available for Lead Case Manager review and continued case management.
Documentation
- Document resident interactions, concerns, incidents, referrals, admissions, and significant events accurately and timely.
- Maintain required information in Purpose Path.
- Complete required evening shift reports.
- Complete incident reports when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and confidential resident records.
- Communicate outstanding resident needs and follow-up items to the Lead Case Manager.
Crisis Response & Safety
The Resident Support Specialist must remain calm and follow established New Purpose House procedures during emergencies and crisis situations.
Responsibilities include:
- Recognizing potential safety and crisis concerns.
- Utilizing appropriate de-escalation techniques.
- Following established crisis-response procedures.
- Immediately escalating suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, threats of violence, self-harm, or other serious safety concerns.
- Contacting designated leadership or emergency resources according to protocol.
- Documenting incidents and actions taken.
The Resident Support Specialist is not expected to independently provide clinical treatment or manage high-risk crises outside the scope of the position.
Professional Boundaries
Professional boundaries are a non-negotiable requirement of employment with New Purpose House.
The Resident Support Specialist must:
- Maintain professional relationships with residents at all times.
- Use approved New Purpose House communication methods for resident communication.
- Refrain from inappropriate personal texting or communication with residents.
- Refrain from sharing personal photographs or inappropriate personal information with residents.
- Follow organizational policies regarding personal telephone numbers and social media.
- Avoid favoritism or relationships that could compromise professional judgment.
- Never borrow money from or lend money to residents.
- Maintain resident confidentiality.
- Immediately report potential boundary concerns to leadership.
Violation of professional-boundary requirements may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in residential services, reentry, social services, supportive housing, behavioral health, recovery services, corrections, community services, or a related environment preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to accurately complete documentation and case notes.
- Ability to work independently during evening hours.
- Strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to enforce policies respectfully and consistently.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Basic computer and technology skills.
- Reliable transportation.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to consistently work Monday–Thursday from 3:00 PM–9:00 PM.
Preferred:
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in social work, human services, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, behavioral health, or a related field.
- Experience working with women impacted by incarceration, substance use, homelessness, trauma, or behavioral health challenges.
- Previous experience conducting referrals, screenings, intakes, or admissions.
- Crisis intervention or de-escalation experience.
- CPR/First Aid certification.

Applicants must be able to consistently work the stated evening schedule.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who can run the evening operation confidently when the Lead Case Manager is no longer on site.
The successful candidate will be compassionate without becoming personally involved, comfortable enforcing program expectations, capable of completing an intake or admission independently after training, responsive to resident needs, and highly dependable.
