Atlantic Fall Protection, Inc. is a rapidly growing turnkey fall protection company dedicated to eliminating one of the greatest threats to employee safety; falls from elevated work environments. We handle every aspect of fall protection systems, including design, engineering, fabrication, installation, training, and inspection. We are located in North Charleston, SC but serve customers nationwide. We have an exciting opportunity as a Drafter for the ideal candidate.
We are looking for a Drafter to work with our team to create and convert designs into technical plans and participate in the estimating process. This is an In-Office, In-Person position.
The Drafter will be responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and plans, calculating material and equipment requirements, and communicating production methods with our team of fabricators. This role involves hands-on work in the fabrication shop as required and the ability to design with CAD and other design software (Autodesk Inventor) to create detailed technical drawings and specifications. The Drafter will liaise with customers and engineers, ensure compliance with regulations and quality standards, contribute to the creation of product manuals and cost estimates, and participate in continuous improvement. They will also prepare project close-out documentation and assist in the reporting processes.
Responsibilities:
Design and Drafting:
- Gather drawings and specifications from customers and engineers to understand product and structural requirements.
- Utilize CAD, Inventor, and other design software to create detailed technical drawings and specifications.
- Prepare and review rough sketches, collaborate with the client and estimating team for accuracy.
- Design and develop engineering systems and components.
- Calculate dimensions, weight limitations, and material requirements.
- Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality.
Research and Analysis:
- Conduct research on materials, components, and industry standards.
- Analyze data and prepare reports to support engineering decisions.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest engineering technologies and methodologies.
Project Support:
- Assist in project planning and coordination.
- Support senior engineers in the execution of project tasks.
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates on assigned tasks.
Quality Assurance:
- Ensure final designs comply with industry regulations and quality standards.
- Review and validate design accuracy before production.
- Present designs with minimal errors, perform self-checks.
- Perform inspections as required at Client locations.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Create manuals describing the operation, features, and maintenance of existing products.
- Maintain organized records of designs, drawings, and project documentation.
- Prepare inspection findings and project close-out documentation.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Liaise with fabricators to communicate production methods and ensure accurate implementation of designs.
- Work closely with product management, manufacturing, and other departments to ensure alignment of project goals.
- Office-based with occasional site visits, remote work as required. May require occasional travel to meet with clients.
Requirements and skills
- Proven work experience as a Drafter or similar role
- Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Familiarity with 3D modeling tools
- Good math skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- BS in Engineering, Architecture, or a degree from a technical college

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
