The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher reports directly to the Kindergarten Primary Teacher. The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher supports the classroom teacher by assisting with instruction and tasks to accomplish classroom objectives. In the classroom, the responsibilities of the role may include helping to prepare classroom curriculum materials, supporting circle time, engaging children in learning center activities, working with students who need additional instruction, and discussing students' progress with their teacher. Assistant teachers may work with small groups of students or with one student at a time. Additionally, they may confer with teachers on student performance, and they may oversee students outside of the classroom during recess, drop-off and pick-up, field trips, and related activities.
