The role of a 19A Certified Examiner is to maintain driver’s eligibility status, along with records, which comply with NYS 19A requirements. They will also act as a Safety Supervisor, by ensuring safety among drivers when handling their vehicles. If an accident were to occur they must report it immediately and accurately.
Duties
- Manage training staff
- Teach two (2) week para-transit training class
- Complete and maintain required 19A paperwork on new and existing drivers
- Conduct 19A road tests on new and existing drivers
- Re-instruct drivers when they have accidents/incidents
- Make sure new trainees can operate vehicles appropriately
- Ensure all employees follow company policy and procedures, and rules on the road at all times.
- Responsible for the supervision, training, orientation and testing of new and experienced drivers.
- Make recommendations, to Supervisors, for hiring new drivers
- Observe drivers on routes, loading/unloading students, and parking of buses
- Maintain 19A files as required, including ensuring staff are meeting 19A regulations
- May operate a school bus or fill in for dispatcher, as needed
- Other duties as required
Safety Supervisor
- Monitors driver pre and post trip inspections and equipment issues (e.g., lights, clips, strobe, brakes) and takes corrective action.
- Contact emergency services regarding vehicle collisions.
- Performs driver road checks (e.g., bus stops-early/late arrivals; safety, speeding, railroad crossings); also observes drivers for work readiness (e.g., uniform, safety vest, appearance).
- Investigates incidents/accidents for example, identifies facts on-the-scene, and takes photos.
- Completes various compliance activities, for example, motor vehicle records, background checks, non-compliance list, route signs on buses, GAP applications, accident reports, records safety compliance data.
- Dispatches as needed.
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
