Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Ocean Export to join our logistics team in Chicago, IL. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage international shipping operations, coordinate with carriers and clients, and ensure compliance with trade regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in supply chain management, transportation planning, and customer relationship management within a fast-paced logistics environment. This position is integral to maintaining seamless export operations and fostering strong client partnerships.
Duties
- Manage end-to-end ocean export shipments, including booking, documentation, and coordination with carriers and freight forwarders.
- Experience in Ocean, Air, and Ground Import & Export operations is a plus.
- Oversee transportation management systems (TMS), CargoWise, EDI, and AS400 platforms to facilitate accurate data entry, dispatching, and tracking of shipments
- Coordinate with clients to understand shipping requirements, provide quotes, and negotiate rates for freight forwarding logistics services
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, FDA regulations, and trade documentation requirements for export shipments
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication, account management, and customer service
- Prepare shipping documents such as bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and export declarations
- Collaborate with internal teams on logistics planning, carrier sales, freight brokerage, and 3PL solutions to optimize transportation efficiency
- Monitor shipment status and resolve issues related to delays or customs clearance promptly
- Support sales efforts through lead generation, inside sales activities, and CRM software utilization for client engagement and contract management
- Negotiate contracts with carriers and clients to secure favorable terms while maintaining high service standards
- Stay updated on industry trends including air freight options, trade compliance changes, and international trade regulations
Qualifications
- Proven experience in supply chain management, transportation management systems (TMS), or logistics sales within a freight forwarding or 3PL environment
- Strong knowledge of shipping logistics, trade compliance, international trade regulations (including FDA), and customs procedures
- Experience with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce), CargoWise, EDI systems, AS400 platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) for data entry and reporting
- Excellent negotiation skills with a focus on transportation sales and client relationship management
- Ability to handle complex logistics planning involving air freight, ocean freight (NVOCC), freight brokerage, and carrier sales
- Demonstrated ability in account management or inside sales roles within the logistics or freight forwarding industry
- Strong customer service orientation with effective communication skills for client interaction and problem resolution
- Knowledge of pricing strategies for freight services and lead generation techniques for new business development
- Familiarity with contracts negotiation, dispatching procedures, and logistics company operations is preferred

Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Logistics, Maritime and Port Administration, International Business, or related fields (preferred, not required).
- HAZMAT Certification, IATA Certified Professional Training (CTP), and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certification are considered a plus
