Women’s mental health needs are both widespread and underserved, from the reproductive years through menopause and beyond. During this time, nearly 1 in 5 women experience moderate to serious psychological distress, yet only a fraction receive the specialized care they need, and mental health conditions remain a leading contributor to maternal morbidity and mortality.
Mavida Health (mavidahealth.com) is building a different model. We are a clinician-led, early-stage startup providing comprehensive, specialized virtual mental health care for women and their families across major hormonal and life transitions. Our work spans the full reproductive and hormonal lifespan, including:
- PMOS, PMDD
- Fertility challenges
- Pregnancy
- Postpartum
- Pregnancy and infant loss
- Parenting
- Perimenopause and Menopause
Mavida provides integrated, evidence-based care through 1:1, couples, and group therapy, alongside medication management and prescribing, as well as educational content and community support. We serve individuals and families navigating the intersection of biology and lived experience from trying to conceive to raising children and beyond.
We are lead Psych NP to help expand access to this level of specialized, whole-person care as we continue to grow.
What are we looking for?
Mavida Health is seeking an experienced Lead Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to help expand and shape our psychiatric services as we continue to grow.
This is a unique opportunity for a clinician who is passionate about women's mental health and excited by both patient care and leadership. In addition to maintaining a clinical caseload, the Lead PMHNP will serve as a mentor and clinical resource for other psychiatric providers, helping to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care across the organization.
The ideal candidate brings strong clinical judgment, experience supervising or mentoring other clinicians, and a collaborative approach to building innovative models of care.

- Has high ethical standards and maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to all relevant laws and regulations governing psychiatric nursing practice.
- Has strong communication skills, as all work will be conducted remotely; should be able to convey complex medical information in a clear and understandable manner (or willingness to grow in that area).
- Is comfortable with the technology and/or willing to learn new technologies to facilitate patient-centered virtual care
What is the role?
The Lead Psychiatric NP will provide both clinical care and provide leadership and supervision:
Clinical Care
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments of patients, including reviewing medical histories, performing mental status examinations, and formulating diagnoses.
- Develop individualized treatment plans for patients, including prescribing appropriate medications, therapy, and other interventions.
- Provide evidence-based, patient-centered psychiatric care to individuals, with a focus on women's health or perinatal health issues.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, therapists, and social workers, to coordinate patient care and ensure holistic treatment.
- Monitor and adjust treatment plans as necessary based on patients' progress, side effects, or changing clinical needs.
- Provide education and counseling to patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including electronic health records (EHR), in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Stay current with best practices, research, and developments in psychiatric nursing and women's health, sharing knowledge with the team as appropriate.
- Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing psychiatric nursing practice.
Clinical Leadership & Supervision
- Provide supervision, consultation, and mentorship to PMHNPs and psychiatric providers.
- Support clinical onboarding and training of new psychiatric clinicians.
- Serve as a resource for complex clinical cases and treatment planning.
- Contribute to the development of clinical protocols, workflows, and best practices.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and outcome-focused care programs.
- Help foster a collaborative, supportive, and growth-oriented clinical culture.
- Partner with leadership on strategic growth and service development initiatives.
Requirements:
- Valid and active California Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner license.
- Minimum 5 years of PMHNP experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising, mentoring, or leading Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners or other behavioral health clinicians.
- Minimum 2 years of experience treating women's mental health, reproductive psychiatry, and/or perinatal mental health populations.
- Ability to work independently in a 100% virtual environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on patient-centered care.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other healthcare software.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and upholding ethical standards.
Ideally, the candidate displays the following characteristics:
- Additional state licensures
- Formal training or certification in perinatal mental health
- Experience building clinical programs or developing clinical protocols.
- Prior startup or high-growth healthcare experience.
- A flexible and curiosity-based approach to problem-solving
- Self-starter with a passion for women’s health
- Ability to work independently and problem solve while participating in a team environment
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills

A bit more about us…
President and Co-Founder Sarah Oreck is Columbia-trained psychiatrist with a fellowship in reproductive psychiatry. Frustrated with the current state of perinatal mental health care, Sarah dreamt up Mavida Health as a way to leverage technology to provide increased access to better mental health care during the maternity journey. She has operated private practices in CA and NY states as well as consulting for several femtech companies. She frequently contributes as an expert to media articles on reproductive mental health and has garnered a large following on social media with her educational content.
