American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 12-hour night shift travel contract in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5–2 years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Mixed ICU setting (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) across a 39-bed unit divided into pods
-
Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases
-
Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma — heavy trauma population

Cardiac experience preferred (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op); fresh open-heart cases are generally reserved for permanent staff
-
Patient ratios: 1:1, 1:2, or occasionally 1:3 depending on acuity

Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter pumps) and Omnicell also in use

12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week

Every-other-weekend rotation is the expectation, though not guaranteed

No on-call responsibilities

Floating is uncommon but possible to adult floors (including Med/Surg/Tele) at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed

Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license accepted

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)

Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel assignments); candidates with 1.5 years ICU experience plus significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis

Epic experience required

Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics

Experience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
-
Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred

Two professional references dated within the last year required for consideration

DOB and SSN required for consideration

First-time travelers are not eligible — a minimum of one prior completed travel assignment is required
-
Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
-
Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
-
No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August annually)
-
Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, but the contract must be extended to fulfill the full 13-week commitment

Orientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shifts
-
Unit support includes CNAs, charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, phlebotomy (peripheral draws), respiratory therapy (24/7), resource nurses (staffing-dependent), and intensivists/APPs on all shifts

Travelers may occasionally be asked to precept students
