SUMMARY
The landscape Inspector plays a vital role in ensuring the beauty and functionality of our parks and facilities and is responsible for inspecting park landscapes, overseeing contracted maintenance work, and guaranteeing adherence to safety and quality standards. This includes monitoring irrigation systems, supervising tree care, and addressing maintenance concerns. The role also provides crucial support to the parks Maintenance Manager by supervising, helping to guide, mentoring, and providing clear direction to the District’s maintenance team, along with handling urgent park and facilities development issues when the manager is unavailable, including answering inquiries, resolving problems, and following up to ensure timely completions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspect Park landscapes and facilities:
This includes evaluating their condition, quality, and adherence to district standards. Specific areas of focus include:

Irrigation systems (monitoring schedules, functionality, and performing routine maintenance).
- Turf care (grass health and fertilization)

Trimming and detail work (ensuring proper pruning and aesthetics)

Debris removal and overall cleanliness

Pest, disease, and weed control.

Troubleshoot and diagnose irrigation system malfunctions.
- Infrastructure health (identifying potential issues before plant damage)
Oversee contracted landscape maintenance:
-
Meet with contractors to discuss work progress and expectations.
- Issue instructions through work orders and correction lists.
- Review completed work for quality and completeness, adhering to District standards and service agreement terms. (May act as a liaison between the District and the contractor.)

Review and approve proposals and process invoices for payment.
Facility Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance on park facilities, buildings, and structures, including basic welding, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
- Repair and maintain playground equipment, sports equipment, benches, picnic tables, and other park amenities.
- Address minor plumbing issues (e.g., leaky faucets) and electrical problems (e.g., replacing light bulbs).
- Conduct safety inspections of park facilities and identify potential hazards.
Maintain comprehensive records:

Document landscape projects with punch lists, reports, photographs, and communication records.

Track and address complaints and payment requests related to landscape maintenance.
Equipment Operation:

Operates vehicles(trucks) for transporting materials and equipment.
- Uses various tools and equipment for irrigation tasks, such as:

Trenches, Pipe cutters, Sprinkler head tools, Meters, and testing equipment
Inventory Management:
- Assists with monitoring inventory levels of irrigation supplies.

Orders supplies as needed to maintain adequate stock.
- Maintains accurate purchase records within the authorized budget.
Customer Services:

Address public inquiries and requests regarding park development, potentially involving communication with contractors, vendors, or other agencies.
- Identifies and resolves irrigation-related issues.
- Consult with supervisors on matters involving complex or politically sensitive issues or where action or resolutions are not appropriate.
Safety and Recordkeeping:

Follows established safety protocols for outdoor work.
- Utilizes appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPR) for assigned Tasks.
- Will participate in safety training programs.
- Maintains and documents repairs, parts used, and labor hours for maintenance work & accurately completes records of irrigation system maintenance activities utilizing computerized maintenance management systems.
Special Events:

Assists with setting up or taking down irrigation systems for District special events.
- May adjust irrigation schedules to accommodate the needs of special events.
Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Receives general supervision and direction from the Maintenance Manager.

Directly supervise employees in the Maintenance Department.

Consult with supervisors on matters pertaining to complex or politically sensitive issues or where there is no precedence for action or resolutions.

Directly supervise employees in the Maintenance Division.

Conduct interviews and training for new employees.
-
Plan, assign, and direct work for maintenance staff.

Appraise employee performance and recommend rewards or disciplinary actions.

Address employee complaints and resolve problems.
