Position Summary:
Under the supervision of a Police Lieutenant, the Police Sergeant serves as a first-line supervisor responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating the daily activities of an assigned patrol shift or unit. Sergeants provide operational leadership, ensure compliance with Department policies and applicable law, review officer performance, and serve as the on-scene supervisor during routine and critical incidents.
Essential Responsibilities

Supervise and coordinate assigned patrol personnel and daily operations.

Conduct shift briefings and communicate Department initiatives, directives, and training information.

Review and approve reports, arrest affidavits, citations, warrants, and investigative documentation.

Monitor officer activity to ensure compliance with policy, law, and professional standards.

Respond to and supervise high-risk, complex, or critical incidents.

Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, counseling, and personnel development activities.

Review body-worn camera footage and conduct officer performance reviews.

Conduct preliminary administrative investigations and complaint reviews.

Promote accountability, professionalism, and ethical conduct.

Support community engagement and problem-solving initiatives.

Identify operational challenges and provide recommendations for improvement.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Work Schedule
Full-time position. Requires the ability to work various shifts, including but not limited to days, nights, weekends, holidays, emergency response, and call-back status. Must be capable of performing all essential duties of a Police Officer.
