Job Overview
TMD is seeking a detail-oriented GIS and Data Visualization Specialist to support transit planning projects across a range of clients and service environments. This position works under the direction of a Project Manager or other company designee and contributes to both project delivery and internal GIS capability.
Primary Responsibilities
Project Work
Collect, process, and analyze spatial and tabular data to support transit planning deliverables. Prepare maps, exhibits, charts, and tables using ArcGIS, Adobe Illustrator, and related tools. Develop online maps, StoryMaps, and interactive visualizations for public engagement using ArcGIS Online or comparable platforms.
Innovation and Workflow Improvement
Work with TMD staff to develop new deliverable formats and improve the application of GIS tools across projects. Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and automate recurring tasks.
GIS Standards and Quality Control
Maintain standard templates, methods, and file structures, and ensure their consistent use across projects. Monitor output for quality and adherence to TMD standards. Assist in workflow coordination and work assignment to meet project priorities and deadlines.
Technical Support and Staff Development
Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to planners and other GIS users. Support ongoing skill development among GIS staff. Work with senior management to evaluate and upgrade TMD's GIS standards and capabilities.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online; experience with ModelBuilder or Python scripting a plus
- Ability to produce clear, publication-quality maps and graphics using Adobe Illustrator or comparable software
- Experience with data visualization tools and techniques for public-facing or stakeholder communications
- Familiarity with SQL or relational database concepts helpful
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project tasks concurrently
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Background in transportation, planning, or a related field preferred
Pay: $68,640.00 - $95,680.00 per year
