The Kew-Forest School, a PS-12 co-educational day school founded in 1918 in Forest Hills, NY, is seeking an experienced Middle & Upper School Part-Time Music teacher with a strong background in Music education. We are an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School for the Primary and Middle Years Programs (PYP & MYP). The Middle & Upper School part time music teacher will teach music to Middle School students (one trimester per grade) and piano to Upper School students. Kew-Forest’s Middle & Upper School encompasses Grades 6-12, and our faculty demonstrates a deep understanding of student and curricular development across these grade levels. The ideal candidate for this position will be energetic, creative, imaginative, and thoughtful in their approach to curriculum and pedagogy, as we enter a dynamic era of Kew-Forest 2.0.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a Music field.
- Three or more years of Middle and Upper School Music teaching experience (independent schools preferred);
- Familiarity with and enthusiasm for designing curricula aligned with the IB MYP (preferred).
- The ability to deliver a comprehensive and robust Music program for beginning, intermediate and advanced students, including music theory, musicology, voice, and performance.
- The ability to teach instruments including the ukulele, piano, djembe, and metallophone.
- The ability to effectively use technology to deliver curriculum.

- Committed to cultural competency and supporting a diverse student population, particularly through teaching inclusive Music.
- Dedication to designing courses and learning experiences that engage students through project-based learning, inquiry-based practices, presentations, research, projects, and hands-on activities.
- Passionate about mentoring students and supporting their learning beyond the classroom.
- Committed to professional development, lifelong learning, and active engagement in Music-related fields or professional organizations.
- Knowledge about current trends in teaching and learning.
- An effective communicator with strong written and oral communication skills to engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Collaborative, with the ability to work effectively alongside other teachers.
Salary Range
$40,000 - $74,000, commensurate with years of experience.
