Position Overview
The Air Pak and Apparatus Service Technician performs Scott air-pak flow testing and repairs at customer locations and in-house. This role also supports service repairs on ambulances and fire apparatus, as well as in-house equipment installations on new and refurbished apparatus.
The primary base of operations is the home office in Antigo, Wisconsin, where most workdays—approximately 90%—will begin. A service vehicle, laptop, and necessary tools are provided.

Responsibilities are expected to be approximately 40% air-pak flow testing and 60% apparatus mechanic work and related duties.

Flexible scheduling is required. While a standard workday is typically eight hours, overtime and longer days may be needed, especially for road service repairs.
This position may be full-time or part-time. Part-time scheduling is typically three to four days per week.
Competitive hourly pay is offered and will be based on experience with electronics, wiring, trouble shooting and analyzing issues.
SCBA Technician Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform Scott flow testing and air-pak repairs, including overnight travel three to four times per year.
- Conduct leak checks, pressure testing, visual inspections, and troubleshooting.
- Diagnose, repair, and replace electronics, small-gauge wiring, and related components.
- Review and interpret equipment operating manuals, blueprints, electrical diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Maintain an organized inventory of SCBA parts and equipment that can be easily followed by multiple team members.
- Perform cylinder and cylinder valve maintenance.
- Communicate professionally with customers by phone, email, and in person to diagnose issues and determine appropriate solutions for air-pak repairs.
- Initial manufacturer-required air-pak training will be conducted out of state. Pomasl Fire Equipment will cover all associated costs, including travel, meals, and class fees.
Apparatus Service Repairs & Installation Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and valve repairs on ambulances and fire apparatus. Work is limited to the ambulance body, water pump, fire apparatus body, and electrical wiring; engine and transmission repairs are not required. A Work List will be provided and reviewed before each project begins.
- Review the Work List with the Service Manager, then complete assigned tasks efficiently and to a high-quality standard.
- Communicate with the Service Manager, Project Manager, or appropriate team member when questions arise during installations or repairs.
- Install new products on vehicles at customer locations and in-house.
- Perform 12V DC and 120V AC electrical repairs on vehicles at customer locations and in-house.
- Typical workload is approximately 85% 12V DC and 15% 120V AC.
- Read and interpret electrical diagrams and engineering prints.
- Communicate with customers by phone, email, text, or in person, when directed, to help diagnose service issues and determine appropriate solutions.
- Inspect used vehicles upon arrival, document identified deficiencies, review findings with the Service Manager or Sales Manager, and complete repairs as directed.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule efficient road trips to customer locations
- Listen carefully and follow instructions from the Service Manager, Lead Technicians, and Sales Manager
- Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve equipment issues.
- Prepare detailed and accurate service reports documenting all work performed so the Service Manager has the information needed to complete customer invoices. Microsoft Excel is preferred; handwritten reports are acceptable when legible and professionally prepared
- Use professional phone etiquette when communicating with customers to diagnose concerns and help resolve service issues
- Demonstrate proficiency with hand tools, power tools, jacks, and diagnostic equipment, with the ability and willingness to learn new tools quickly
- Read, interpret, and discuss information with customers that is relevant to the work being performed
- Willingness and ability to learn new electrical skills (e.g., relays, breakers, multiplex, interlocks).
- Ability to think creatively and adapt to new situations.
- Demonstrate the ability or willingness to learn the functions of a multimeter and other electrical diagnostic tools
- Ability to consult equipment operating manuals, blueprints, electrical diagrams, and drawings.
- Repair fire hose, including cutting hose and disassembling and reassembling couplings
- Assist with delivering new vehicles to customers at their locations
- Exchange loaner vehicles with customers at their locations
- Work with UPS and Spee Dee shipping programs
- Maintain a positive, can-do attitude
- Color vision is helpful due to electrical wire color coding
- Professional, calm demeanor with customers and colleagues
- Wear appropriate professional clothing in the shop and while working on the road
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Fire or EMS service background preferred but not required
- Two or more years of service industry experience preferred
