Music Retail & Enrollment Lead
Davis Academy of Music | Bloomington, IN
Overview
The Davis Academy of Music is more than a retail store; we are a hub for the Bloomington music community. We are seeking a high-energy, customer-focused Lead Sales & Enrollment Coordinator to be the face of our Academy and Artist Colony. You won’t just be "ringing up" customers—you will be the bridge between a student’s curiosity and their musical journey. If you have a passion for gear, a heart for education, and the "sales DNA" to grow our academy, we want to meet you.
Core Responsibilities
- The First Impression: Warmly greet every guest and manage the "vibe" of the front-of-house. You are the curator of our inviting, creative atmosphere.
- Growth & Enrollment: Actively promote our music lesson programs. You will guide prospective students and parents through the enrollment process, matching them with the right coach and curriculum.
- Gear Expertise: Assist customers with retail needs, specializing in accessories (strings, sticks, reeds) and entry-level instruments. You should be able to explain why a certain product fits a student’s current level.
- Operational Excellence: Master our POS and Academy management software (scheduling, billing, and student tracking).
- Merchandising with Purpose: Maintain a clean, professional, and inspiring sales floor. Ensure our "Artist Colony" co-working spaces are tidy and welcoming.
- Leadership: Supervise junior staff or interns, ensuring the Davis Academy standards are met even when the Director is off-site.
- Product Demos: Confidently demo instruments and gear to highlight features and encourage upselling.
Qualifications
- The "Music" Factor: Previous experience in music (as a player, student, or enthusiast) is highly preferred. Specific knowledge of guitar strings, tuning, and basic gear maintenance is a major plus.
- Sales Savvy: 2+ years of retail or "consultative sales" experience (selling a service or membership rather than just a product).
- Tech Literacy: Ability to quickly learn new software (POS, Google Workspace, and scheduling apps).
- Leadership Potential: Experience supervising others or managing a "key-holder" responsibility.
- Education: High school diploma required; some college or a background in Arts Administration/Music Business is a significant advantage.
- The "Bloomington" Touch: Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with a diverse crowd—from IU students to local parents and professional musicians.
