POSITION GOAL:
To assist the Principal in carrying out the administrative responsibilities of the school center and assume the role of the Principal in the absence of the Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The principal duties and responsibilities of the position of Assistant Principal include an assigned combination of the following, depending on the size of the school and its administrative organization.
1. *Provide facilitative leadership demonstrating the values, beliefs, skills and personal characteristics that inspire people to accomplish the school board’s vision.
2. *Demonstrate a commitment to the goal of graduation assurance for all students.
3. *Assist the principal to ensure that teachers plan and provide effective instruction to accomplish the school’s goals based on the tenet that teachers believe all students can learn.
4. *Use appropriate means to provide a school environment, which is safe, secure, orderly and conducive to learning.
5. *Value and demonstrate an understanding of the diversity reflected in the school community.
6. *Assist the principal in initiating, monitoring, assessing and supervising the implementation of activities to support the goals and objectives of the school improvement plan.
7. *Assist the principal in implementing an effective staff development program for all members of the staff based on school focused improvement needs.
8. *Promote a positive school climate by encouraging the capabilities and emphasizing the worth of all individuals.
9. *Project, promote and maintain an enthusiasm for learning among students, teachers, family, and community members.
10. *Use a variety of data to make decisions regarding the school instructional program, such as surveys and interviews regarding the climate for learning, attendance, parent participation and educational research, as well as other measures of student assessment.
11. *Assist in evaluating the performance of all certified and support personnel and regularly provide feedback, guidance, support and assistance as needed.
12. *Interpret, implement and maintain compliance with school board policies, state school laws and administrative directives and practices.
13. *Use knowledge of child growth and development in the practical application of the functions of school administration.
14. *Perform medical intervention as assigned and in accordance with law and school board policy.
15. *Engage in a program of continuing professional development and participate as a member of local, state and national professional groups.
16. *Orient the newly assigned staff members and ensure their familiarization with school policies and procedures, teaching materials and school facilities and nurture their professional development.
17. *Support efforts to create a strong sense of team through the use of effective human relations techniques.
18. *Supervise curricular and extracurricular activities and programs as assigned by the principal.
19. *Assist in the development and administration of the school center budget.
20. *Assist with the planning and implementation of the public relations program.
21. *Assist with student supervision and discipline.
22. *Supervise textbook and equipment inventory and budget.
23. *Assist the principal in the preparation of school reports and administration of records.
24. *Assist in providing on-site facilities management and recommend repairs, maintenance and renovations as needed.
25. *Coordinate the development or revision, implementation and monitoring of the school improvement plan.
26. *Encourage positive school/community relations and serve as a liaison between the school and community.
27. *Assist the principal in providing leadership for the implementation of state, district and school achievement standards, and tests adopted to measure student performance.
28. *Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with parents, staff, students and the community.
29. *Supervise designated personnel, including selection, performance evaluation, and training.
30. *Manage and administer the testing program for the school.
31. *Utilize current educational best practices and research in the planning and preparation of the school instructional program. 32. *Serve as school liaison to school/ district committees and task groups, representing assigned program.
33. *Provide services relating to student intake, transfer, and scheduling as assigned.
34. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal.
