Position: Barista
Pilar Coffee Bar is the newest specialty coffee & food shop in the heart of beautiful Roslyn, NY a walkable, charming community known for its local character and neighborhood feel. We’re building a destination for people who value quality, craft, and a welcoming atmosphere.
As a Barista/Cashier at Pilar Coffee Bar and Iced Treats, you help create the welcoming, high‑quality experience our guests return for. This role combines crafting beverages, managing the register, and supporting the front of house to keep service flowing smoothly. Every team member is expected to bring care, efficiency, and genuine hospitality to each interaction while representing Pilar’s standards with pride.
This role operates in both the coffee bar and front-of-house areas. Shifts may include early mornings, weekends, and holidays depending on business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation and Quality Control
· Prepare coffee, tea, and iced beverages following precise recipes and standards.
· Operate and maintain espresso machines, grinders, frothers, and other equipment.
· Ensure drinks are consistently accurate, visually appealing, and served promptly.
Cashiering and Customer Transactions
· Operate the POS system accurately, processing cash and credit transactions.
· Confirm order accuracy, issue receipts, and balance cash drawers per company policy.
· Handle payments responsibly and in compliance with procedures.
Customer Service and Guest Interaction
· Greet guests warmly, answer menu questions, and make personalized recommendations.
· Serve gelato and other menu items with attention to portion sizes and presentation.
· Anticipate customer needs, respond to feedback courteously, and foster a friendly environment.
Front-of-House Multi-Function Support
· Assist with order assembly, iced treat preparation, and food handoffs during busy periods.
· Restock supplies at the counter, condiment stations, and dining area.
· Complete opening and closing duties to ensure readiness and cleanliness.
Cleanliness and Food Safety
· Maintain a clean, organized workspace and dining area in compliance with food safety standards.
· Follow daily cleaning schedules, including sanitizing surfaces and equipment.
· Perform weekly deep-cleaning tasks and manage trash/recycling areas.
Product Knowledge and Promotion
· Stay informed about menu items, seasonal offerings, and featured products.
· Actively promote Pilar’s specialty beverages, gelato, and seasonal treats.
Attention to Detail and Consistency
· Follow established procedures precisely to ensure consistency in service and product quality.
· Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in drink preparation, order accuracy, and cleanliness.

The duties outlined above are essential to the position; however, team members may be asked to perform additional responsibilities as directed by their supervisor.
