Duties
- Safely operate commercial vehicles including tractor-trailers, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and other specialized trucks across over-the-road (OTR) routes.
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery times and fuel efficiency while adhering to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight, ensuring proper handling of logistics cargo while complying with hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous substances.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety issues, including manual handling tasks when necessary.
- Load & unload cargo accurately, utilizing equipment such as forklifts when required, ensuring truck loading and unloading procedures are followed precisely.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, delivery records, and compliance documentation in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route updates, delivery schedules, or any incidents encountered during transit.
Requirements
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on delivery driving and route driving across diverse terrains.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to the vehicle type
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for truck driving.
- Experience operating various types of trucks including tractor-trailers, hopper bottom trailers, flatbeds,
- Ability to handle manual transmission vehicles confidently and perform manual handling tasks related to load & unload operations.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems for efficient route planning and real-time navigation adjustments.
- Ability to load & unload freight safely using appropriate equipment like forklifts when necessary.
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with dispatch teams and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
