Position Summary
The Adult Tennis Instructor delivers high-quality tennis instruction while promoting skill development, confidence, physical fitness, and lifelong enjoyment of the sport. This position creates engaging, inclusive, and appropriately challenging learning environments for adults of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels.
The Adult Tennis Instructor supports DTP’s adult programming, including clinics, private and group lessons, leagues, drop-in programs, tournaments, and special events. Beyond technical instruction, the instructor builds meaningful relationships with participants, fosters a welcoming tennis community, and advances DTP’s HEART values of Humility, Effort, Attitude, Respect, and Teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction to adults across a range of ages, skill levels, fitness levels, and learning styles, adapting instruction to meet individual needs and goals
- Execute and assist with lesson plans, adapting instruction to meet the goals and abilities of adult players.
- Facilitate programs (preps, setup, conduct, breakdown, evaluation)
- Help players identify their next opportunity at DTP supporting long-term participation
- Bring ideas for new adult offerings, formats, events, and experiences that respond to participant interests and tennis trends
- Clearly explains technique and strategy while providing constructive, encouraging feedback
- Support DTP’s culture by fostering positive, collaborative, and professional relationships with fellow instructors and staff
- Other duties in support of the organization and its mission, if requested and as appropriate

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum of five years’ experience teaching/coaching
- Proven track record of orchestrating fun, engaging, safe and informative adult experiences
- Tennis playing experience
- CPR certified (within 60 days of hire)
- Safe Play certification
- Sexual Harassment Training (within 30 days)
- Mandatory Reporter Training (within first 30 days)
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- RSPA, PTR certification or USTA training
- Experience teaching tennis in non-traditional or educational settings
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Proficiency and/or fluency in world languages a PLUS
Additional Information:
- Hours: 25-29 hours/week
- Compensation: Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and skills; $25 - $45 per hour
