St. Martin’s Episcopal Church – Music Director Open Position
St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Ellisville, a thriving Christian community, seeks a Music Director to lead their robust choir and music program.
Duties
· Select music for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service in consultation with the priest, which includes:
o Service music – typically, Gloria, Sanctus, Fraction anthem
o 4-5 hymns, including a choir anthem
o A prelude and postlude
· Play for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service weekly and for special services during Advent/Christmas and Holy Week
· Lead the 15-person volunteer choir in Sunday rehearsals for that week’s service music, hymns, and anthem. The choir meets/performs Sep-May.
· First right of refusal for weddings, funerals, and other liturgical events at St. Martin’s which include additional compensation
· Coordinate substitutes for vacation or leave
· Report weekly hymn usage for copyright compliance, such as to One License
· Ensure tuning/maintenance of instruments:
o Rodgers programmable organ; 3 manuals, 158 stops in the sanctuary
o Baldwin grand piano in the sanctuary
o Yahama Clavinova electric piano in the rehearsal space
o 3 and a half octave newly refurbished handbell set
o 2+ octaves of hand chimes
o Assorted hand-held rhythm instruments
Skills Needed
· Ability to play piano and/or organ from various hymnals and scores
· Dexterity in accompanying a variety of musical styles, from traditional hymns to Gospel pieces
· Experience in rehearsing and leading a choir and effectively teaching SATB parts
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative spirit
· Desired but not required: Ability to conduct adult handbells & music with children
Time and Compensation
· Salaried position, 18 hours per week on average
· $24K-$28K per year, based on experience and ability
