Now Hiring: Apex Service Runner — Mobile Auto Service Assistant (Austin, TX)
Apex Mobile Autoworks is a mobile auto repair business serving the greater Austin area. We bring the shop to the customer — diagnosing and repairing Domestic, Asian, and European vehicles right in their driveway. Right now it's a one-person operation, and we're hiring our first Service Runner to grow with us.
This is a ground-floor support role. You don't need any mechanical experience — what matters is that you're reliable, willing to work, and ready to do whatever keeps the day running.
What the job is
This is a two-person team, and it only works when both halves are pulling. My job is the repairs; your job is everything that keeps those repairs flowing — parts, supplies, cleanup, site setup, and an extra set of hands. Neither of us gets cars out the door without the other: when you're dialed in, I'm faster, and the whole operation wins. The role is built around the support work that keeps us on schedule, so a typical day looks like this:
- Start of day: Load the van, go over the day's schedule, and hit the parts stores to pick up what we need for the jobs ahead.
- Setting up: At each stop, get the work area ready — ramps, jacks, tools, and fluids staged so we can get right to it.
- During the repair: Be the second set of hands that keeps the job flowing — anticipating what's needed next so the work never has to stop.
- Wrapping up: Bag the trash, drain and store the waste oil, break down the site, and leave the customer's space cleaner than we found it.
- Between stops: Keep the van organized and stocked so everything's where it should be for the next job.
- End of day: Drop off the waste oil and trash, restock for tomorrow, and wipe down and reset the van.
Who I'm looking for
- Valid driver's license and a clean enough record to be insured — you'll be driving the van and running parts.
- Reliable and on time. This is the single most important thing.
- Able to lift and move 50+ lbs (parts, fluids, waste oil, tools) and work on your feet and under vehicles in Texas heat.
- Organized and clean without needing to be told.
- Good attitude — takes direction well and asks questions.
- A smartphone for texts, parts photos, and scheduling.
Nice to have (not required)
- Any hands-on car experience or a genuine interest in cars.
- Basic tool familiarity.
- Knowledge of Austin-area roads and parts stores.
