Overview
Hepler’s Hardware (an independent veteran-owned business that has been in operation for 82 years) is seeking a small engine mechanic to work alongside our lead mechanic. Training is provided to become a certified STIHL repair technician. Our shop operates year-round, repairing numerous makes and models of equipment, including but not limited to: Trimmers, chainsaws, mowers, generators, garden tillers, leaf and snow blowers. We are seeking an individual who is organized, reliable, and customer-service driven. General hardware knowledge and retail customer service are part of the role. The position is full-time/part-time up to 40 hours per week.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical knowledge and experience in repairing and maintaining battery-powered and gas-powered small engine equipment.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintain inventory of small engine parts; Track, price, and stock parts selection.
- Field phone and in-person customer inquiries
- Diagnose, disassemble, and repair small engine equipment following professional practices.
- Perform routine maintenance on engines and equipment for personal and commercial customers.
- Document all repairs and maintain accurate records of service history.
- Maintain current knowledge of merchandise lines, product features, benefits, and availability.
- Order, receive, assemble, and deliver equipment and accessories.
- Assist with selection, demonstration, preparation, and retail purchases.
- Maintain a clean and organized repair shop while adhering to safety protocols.
- Ensure a shop-able and safe retail floor.
- Other duties as assigned: Every employee is trained on basics of our retail hardware, and as needed may assist with forklift operations, equipment delivery, merchandise loading, propane filling, key-making, etc.
Experience & Equipment Preferred
1-2 years of experience or certifications in small engine repair
- Demonstration of customer service skills
- Knowledge in retail hardware (i.e. fencing, plumbing, electrical)
- Familiarity with computers and databases
- Personal set of tools

Requirements
- Punctual and reliable
- Able to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods of time
- Lift at least 40lbs repeatedly /80lbs unassisted (up to 100lbs with assistance)
- High school diploma
- Valid driver’s license
