What if music could do more than accompany a film?
We are intentionally designing—and scientifically studying—music as a catalyst for healing, human connection and positive change. Music that can help people regulate, reconnect, move, dance, focus, sleep and remember the joy of being human.
Empathy: The Pursuit of Joy — A Hero’s Journey is a global impact documentary bringing together cinematic storytelling, pop culture, modern science and the Dalai Lama’s enduring ripple of compassion.
Approximately 60% of principal photography is complete. Our filmmakers, scientists, music-medicine researchers and neuroacoustic artists are already in place. Grammy-nominated artist and producer Maejor has committed to collaborate on the original soundtrack.
We are now seeking an exceptional Executive Music Producer with the stature, relationships and passion to attract world-class artists—and help turn this film’s music into a cultural movement.
This Is Not a Traditional Contemplative Soundtrack
We are creating music with medicine inside it.
The sound will bring contemplative traditions into contemporary popular culture—combining original songs, memorable hooks and powerful vocal harmonies with chanting, breath-paced rhythms, neuroacoustic elements and immersive sound design.
Imagine:
- The emotional lift and harmonies of a great anthem
- The immediacy and accessibility of contemporary pop
- The energy, drops and rhythmic movement of EDM
- The reinvention and surprise of a DJ remix
- The joy and release of a song people want to dance to
- The ability of sound to support calm, focus, sleep and emotional regulation
Some tracks may begin as fully written songs and then be reconstructed through beats, drops, rhythmic shifts, sampling, layered voices and unexpected sonic transitions—the way a DJ transforms familiar musical elements into an entirely new experience.
This is not chanting presented in its traditional form, nor a quiet ambient score sitting behind the film. It is contemplative wisdom remixed for modern life: bold, memorable, emotionally irresistible and alive.
Some tracks will soothe. Some will awaken. Some will make people want to move.
All of them should make people want to listen again.
The Opportunity
We are not yet looking for a day-to-day soundtrack producer. We are looking for the Executive Music Producer who can assemble the musical constellation.
This person will help shape the creative vision, open the right doors and invite internationally recognized artists to become part of the film and soundtrack.
We are especially interested in someone with the relationships and credibility to engage artists at the level of Sting, Lady Gaga, Jon Batiste, Chaka Khan, U2 and other musicians with extraordinary cultural reach.
The ideal candidate understands that attaching the right artists is not merely a promotional strategy. Their voices, musicianship and personal connection to the mission can help carry the film’s message into popular culture—and bring it to millions of people who might never seek out traditional contemplative content.
Responsibilities
The Executive Music Producer will:
- Collaborate to define the film and soundtrack’s overarching musical identity
- Attract and engage A-list musicians, producers, composers and vocalists
- Activate relationships with artists, managers, labels, publishers and music-industry leaders
- Curate the right combination of voices, genres and musical collaborations
- Help translate contemplative traditions into contemporary pop, electronic and danceable music
- Collaborate with Maejor and the film’s existing creative and scientific team
- Identify producers capable of transforming original songs into innovative remixes and immersive experiences
- Guide high-level decisions concerning recording, collaborations, rights, publishing and soundtrack distribution
- Explore opportunities for soundtrack releases, live performances, immersive sound baths and cultural partnerships
- Help position the soundtrack for major media, festival and awards opportunities
- Champion the music as an artistic experience capable of living far beyond the film
We are seeking someone with:
- Grammy-winning, Grammy-nominated or comparable music-industry credentials
- Significant Executive Music Producer, record executive, artist-management or music-supervision experience
- Trusted relationships with internationally recognized musicians and their representatives
- Experience assembling major artistic collaborations
- Strong knowledge of pop, electronic, dance, cinematic and cross-cultural music
- An understanding of how DJs, remix artists and contemporary producers reinvent songs
- Experience navigating labels, publishing, master rights, licensing and soundtrack releases
- Curiosity about music medicine, neuroacoustics and the measurable effects of sound
- The passion to make this a defining creative and cultural project
Compensation and Participation
This is currently structured as a passion-driven, equity-based Executive Music Producer partnership, rather than a salaried staff position.
The selected producer will receive negotiated equity points and meaningful participation in the film, soundtrack and related music ventures’ future commercial proceeds. Credit and terms will reflect the producer’s experience, relationships, creative contribution, talent attachments and level of involvement.
All ownership, publishing, master rights, participation and credit terms will be clearly documented in a mutually agreed written contract.
The world does not need another lecture about empathy. It needs to feel empathy—and we believe music may be the most powerful way in.
Help us create the music that carries the ripple around the world.
