JOB
The Part-Time Supervising Dentist, Dental Studies, reports to the Department Chair of Dental Hygiene. This position is subject to renewal each fall and spring semester. It provides instruction and supervision for dental hygiene students in clinical and/or laboratory settings.
This is a part-time position, subject to a maximum of 18 hours per week.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Provide supervision to dental hygiene students in the TJC Dental Hygiene Clinic

Evaluate student performance based on calibrated criteria

Assist with the preparation for all clinical/lab activities.

Provide emergency care when a medical or dental emergency arises.

Maintain cleanliness and order in the clinic/laboratory

Follow all clinical protocols as outlined in the Clinic Manual
-
Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, BLS certification, TSBDE regulations, TJC training, and CODA standards

Stay updated on clinic policies, email communications, and departmental notes

Verify patient information before treatment begins; remain present and available during clinical care

Coach students in patient care, documentation, infection control, and professional standards

Apply consistent, equitable evaluation methods per the Clinic Manual; seek clarification as needed

Provide respectful feedback, motivate students, and foster a professional learning environment

Ensure accuracy in all documentation and complete evaluations before leaving the clinic

Adhere to attendance expectations; arrange substitutes when necessary
-
Complete required compliance training and stay current on professional development hours

Attend required meetings and fulfill assignments from the clinic coordinator, chair, or dean

Commit to student success through consistent, evidence-based instruction

Support departmental goals, improvements, and initiatives

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Individual Contributor
Work Environment: Ultrasonic sound, Indoor settings, Occasional work required outside regular business hours. Days can vary depending on the clinic schedule.
Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and repetitive typing.
Travel Required: Yes – Minimal 10%
If travel is required, the candidate must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
