Job description
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Dirt Supervisor to join our team. The Dirt Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and leading a team of utility workers in construction projects. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in civil construction operations, and a proven ability to lead teams and uphold safety standards.
Responsibilities
Typical job duties include but are not limited to:
- Adherence to company policies, including ensuring health and safety standards are met.
- Oversee and manage construction projects from start to finish.
- Manage and coordinate the work of subcontractors and construction teams.
- Coordinate and schedule equipment, labor, subcontractors.
- Read and survey layout and construction plans.
- Shoot grade and estimate quantities and time to complete tasks.
- Ensure compliance with Federal/State/Local regulations.
- Conduct quality control inspections to ensure work meets specifications.
- Monitor project progress and make adjustments as needed.
- Communicate with supervisors, be a team player.
- Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during construction.
- Works with General Superintendent, Human Resources, Foreman and/or Safety Department to interview, hire, train, coach, engage, evaluate and when necessary, discipline employees.
- Manage project budgets, assist with tracking project costs, and control costs.
- Helps train and maintain positive workforce.
- Maintain positive relationships with internal customers, subcontractors, general contractors, and customers' representatives.
- Assures accurate and timely preparation of timecards, equipment hours, production reports, and purchase orders.
- Daily communications with the internal/external stakeholders regarding project status.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules as well as carry out written or verbal instructions.
- Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs, and any other conditions that may affect daily responsibilities.
- Ability to cope well in a stressful environment and communicate professionally.
- Demonstrated ability to train, motivate, and lead team members.
- Ability to independently manage and run crews including knowledge of the materials, methods, tools, safety hazards, and precautions to safely complete projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification is a plus.
- Proven experience (3+ years) in a similar role in the construction industry.
- Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse team.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure.
