Purpose of Position
Responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy construction equipment in both field and shop environments. This position falls under Local 103. This position involves managing mobile field service logistics, responding to job-site mechanical emergencies, and performing preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and keep our specialties crews operating safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Field Diagnostics & Emergency Repair: Troubleshoot and perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic repairs on trucks and heavy construction machinery at active job sites.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine oil changes, fluid level checks, filter replacements, track/tire inspections, and safety checks on all field equipment to prevent breakdowns.
- Hydraulics & Electrical Systems: Read and interpret hydraulic schematics and 12V/24V electrical diagrams to pinpoint and resolve complex technical issues in the field.
- Welding & Fabrication: Conduct minor field welding, torch cutting, and structural repairs on equipment attachments and structural components as needed.
- Part Logistics & Inventory Management: Calculate required parts/supplies for field repairs, order items through approved vendors, and maintain accurate inventory on the service truck.
- Documentation & Service Records: Complete accurate daily work orders, track repair history, and communicate equipment status updates to superintendents and field crews.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience performing heavy equipment, diesel maintenance, and truck repair experience in the construction or heavy machinery industry.
- Licensing: Must pass and maintain a DOT physical. Class A or B CDL preferred.
- Safety Certifications:
- OSHA 10-Hour Certification required (OSHA 30-Hour preferred).
- First Aid and CPR Certification required.
- Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics, hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and job-site safety protocols (Lock-Out/Tag-Out).
- Communication & Tools: Excellent verbal communication skills to coordinate with superintendents, field foremen, and parts suppliers. Must possess a complete set of personal hand tools suitable for heavy equipment repair.
Pay: $26.13 - $31.47 per hour
