MAV OFFROAD is looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Sheet Metal Fabricator to help build components for our amphibious off-road vehicles and custom off-road truck platforms.
This is a hands-on fabrication role for someone who takes pride in accurate, durable work. You will cut, form, weld, fit, and assemble sheet-metal parts used in demanding off-road environments. While prior fabrication experience is valuable, the biggest qualifications for this role are a strong drive to learn and close attention to detail.
Our vehicles are custom-built, so the right candidate must be willing to learn new equipment, materials, processes, and build methods—and be able to apply what they learn to produce high-quality work.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, technical drawings, patterns, dimensions, and fabrication instructions
- Measure, mark, lay out, cut, form, bend, and shape sheet-metal components to specification
- Set up and safely operate fabrication equipment such as press brakes, shears, laser or plasma cutters, rollers, saws, drill presses, and hand/power tools
- Fabricate custom vehicle components including body panels, brackets, mounts, floor panels, enclosures, structural supports, access panels, and other metal parts
- Fit, weld, rivet, bolt, or otherwise fasten components together as required
- Perform MIG welding; TIG welding experience is a plus
- Work with steel, aluminum, and other materials used in custom vehicle construction
- Use calipers, tape measures, squares, angle finders, gauges, and other measuring tools to verify part dimensions, fitment, and quality
- Inspect finished work for accuracy, consistency, clean fit-up, weld quality, and overall appearance
- Modify or repair existing parts as needed during prototype work and vehicle assembly
- Maintain an organized work area and perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment
- Document work completed, materials used, and time spent on work orders
- Follow company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines when using shop equipment, welding equipment, cutting tools, and material-handling equipment
- Collaborate with fabricators, mechanics, technicians, and other team members during complex vehicle builds
Qualifications
- Experience in sheet-metal fabrication, welding, metalworking, body fabrication, manufacturing, or a closely related trade is preferred
- Strong desire to learn new fabrication methods, materials, equipment, and processes
- Ability to take instruction, ask good questions, accept feedback, and apply new knowledge to future work
- High level of attention to detail, including accurate measuring, careful layout, clean fitment, and quality finished work
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, measurements, fabrication prints, and work orders
- Experience operating fabrication equipment such as press brakes, shears, rollers, saws, laser cutters, plasma cutters, and related shop machinery is preferred
- Strong layout, measuring, fitting, and problem-solving skills
- Experience using measuring tools, including tape measures, calipers, squares, angle gauges, and micrometers
- Ability to work accurately to specified dimensions and tolerances
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and contribute effectively as part of a team
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to work in a physical shop environment, including standing, lifting, bending, and handling materials safely
Preferred Qualifications
- MIG welding experience; TIG welding experience is a plus
- Experience fabricating aluminum, mild steel, stainless steel, or mixed-material assemblies
- Experience with off-road vehicles, automotive fabrication, truck-body fabrication, race-car fabrication, marine fabrication, trailers, heavy equipment, or custom builds
- Experience with CNC equipment, laser cutting, plasma cutting, brake-press setup, or CAD/CAM is a plus
- Familiarity with fixture building, prototype fabrication, and low-volume custom production
- Technical-school, vocational, welding, fabrication, or manufacturing certification
- Mechanical, assembly, repair, or custom-vehicle-build experience
What Matters Most
MAV OFFROAD builds custom amphibious off-road vehicles, so this position requires more than simply running a machine or completing repetitive production work. Every build can involve new measurements, new fitment challenges, and new fabrication methods.
The biggest qualifications for this role are a drive to learn and attention to detail. The right person does not need to know everything on day one, but they must be willing to learn from drawings, coworkers, feedback, hands-on experience, and technical information.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work—someone who double-checks measurements, thinks through fitment before cutting material, produces clean and durable welds, and takes pride in building parts correctly rather than rushing through a job. Experience is valuable, but motivation, willingness to improve, and the ability to apply what you learn are essential.
