About the Role
SET Environmental is seeking a versatile, highly skilled Senior Chemical Engineer to provide team leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on operational support for complex, non-routine field projects and facilities.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between high-level engineering design and field execution. You will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of technical projects—incorporating process design, regulatory compliance, and cost estimation—as well as real-time, on-site troubleshooting. The ideal candidate is an adaptable problem-solver who can comfortably pivot from process modeling to working side-by-side with field technicians to execute projects safely and efficiently.
What You’ll Do
- Process Design & SME Consulting: Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on chemical applications for field projects. Provide technical consultation on process design and optimization issues at our Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility (TSDF) in Houston.
- System Engineering: Develop and design engineered solutions for specialized systems, including air handling/scrubbing, wastewater treatment, distillation columns, catalyst reactors, heat exchangers, and specialized applications within the food and natural gas industries.
- Project Preparation & Scoping: Lead front-end job preparation by conducting site visits, defining project scopes, performing mathematical and chemical calculations, and creating accurate cost estimates and safety plans.
- Field Execution & Troubleshooting: Provide direct engineering support and leadership to assembled project teams on-site. Actively work alongside technicians during project execution and manage real-time, time-of-service changes that require immediate, unplanned solutions.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance on specialized laboratory instruments and field equipment as necessary.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to DOT, RCRA, and TSCA regulations across all office, laboratory, and field settings.
What You'll Bring
Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related science/engineering field (Required). Advanced degree (Master’s) is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 8 years of progressive, verifiable experience in utilities, natural gas transmission, or pipeline fields.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) License (or currently working toward it) is highly desired.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive, working knowledge of DOT, RCRA, and TSCA regulations.
- Technical Skills: Mastery of engineering blueprints (P&IDs, process flowcharts), laboratory testing procedures, and proficiency in MS Office products.
- Core Skills: Self-starter with exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, capable of managing non-standard project variables with high adaptability.
- Physical & Travel Adaptability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, don proper PPE, work in a 30/70 field-to-office environment, and travel up to 30% of the time.
