The Overfield School is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, imaginative teacher for our preschool Extended Care classroom for a long term substitute position. This will run from October 19th to December 18th, with the option to continue for the remainder of the school year with the right candidate. The successful applicant will be well-versed in best practices for teaching young children, and passionate about team-teaching utilizing the inspiration of the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
- Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred.
- Understands and supports philosophy, policies, and goals of the Overfield School.
- Has familiarity with the Reggio Emilia philosophy of education. Believes in the importance of active, play-based programs for young children, and has an image of children as strong, capable, and deserving of having a central voice in their own learning.
- Ensures a safe and inviting environment for children and parents.
- Displays the ability to work independently and in a team environment, cooperating with co-teacher as well as studio artist and naturalist.
- Generously shares ideas, time, talent, materials, and helping others achieve their best.
- Sets up and follows daily schedule and methods of classroom management decided along with other members of the teaching team.
- Develops and implements curriculum appropriate to the developmental stages of the children, deciding this with the teaching team.
- Adapts the general curriculum to meet the needs of the individual child with concern for his/her interests, special talents, challenges, style and pace of learning.
- Provides sufficient opportunities for problem solving, both for the individual and the group.
- Assumes share of routines for preparing materials and food, assisting children, and cleaning up.
- Promotes the health and safety of the children.
- Treats each child with dignity and respect, accommodating individual differences and working with the individual child when need arises.
- Is interested in the arts and nature, and has experience using these as an integrated part of the curriculum.
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
