We are seeking an experienced Welding & Assembly Department Leader to oversee our fabrication and assembly operations while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and productivity.
Position Summary
The Welding & Assembly Department Leader will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the welding and assembly department, supervising personnel, scheduling work, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed on time. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical knowledge of prototype sheet metal fabrication and welding processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the daily operations of the welding and assembly department.
- Schedule work and prioritize jobs to meet customer deadlines.
- Train, mentor, and develop welding and assembly personnel.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and work instructions.
- Perform and oversee assembly of small to large prototype sheet metal stampings.
- Set up and troubleshoot welding fixtures and assembly processes.
- Ensure all welds and assemblies meet customer quality specifications.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Program Management, and Manufacturing to resolve production issues.
- Monitor department productivity and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Assist with quoting labor estimates and process planning when required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in prototype sheet metal fabrication, welding, and assembly.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Small to large sheet metal stamping assemblies
- Resistance (spot) welding
- MIG welding
- TIG welding
- Installation of weld fasteners
- assembly of prototype components
- cut and etch weld validation
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
- Experience using measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gages, and other inspection tools.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced prototype manufacturing environment where priorities frequently change.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with automotive prototype programs.
- Knowledge of welding symbols and fabrication drawings.
- Experience with fixture development and process improvements.
- Forklift experience.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
