Fisher Dynamics is currently seeking a Cut & Etch Technician on 2nd Shift at our Harper Woods, Michigan facility. This position is responsible for metallographic analysis of weld samples sectioned from automotive seating components and assemblies. Ensure welds meet customer criteria with respect to drawings and specification requirements. The department is structured as a formal team, and requires the ability to work within the team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Obtain Production parts from welding work-centers and in an organized manner complete the cut, polish and etch process.
- Dimension and record key attributes of welds such as weld length, leg length, throat, depth of fusion, and similar.
- Able to communicate weld discontinuities and defects i.e. Porosity, Burn through, Meltback, Spatter, Incomplete Fusion, Overlap, Undercut, Weld off seam, etc.
- Ability to act as liaison between operators, repair welders, Managers and Line leaders to address welding issues.
- Weld parameter and fixturing problem solving
- Enter data into the computer from paper documents for record keeping purposes
- Set up, Check, sort, and file paperwork
- Continuous improvement activities

Education
High School diploma or equivalent required. Certification in Welding Technology or Quality Systems preferred or equivalent experience education and experience.
Experience
Two to Three years of experience
Skills
- Ability to operate medium duty mechanical equipment. E.g. saws, grinders, sanders, polishers, and plasma cutting machine.
- Ability to follow established procedures.
- Computer skills sufficient to perform department related tasks are required
- Requires strong understanding of part drawings and knowing the elements/characteristics within the called out welding symbols.
- General knowledge of GMAW, LBW, RSW, PW processes, weld repair methods, PM, and root cause analysis of defective welds.
- Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking ability
- Perform sorts, audits or rework products
- Communication skills to communicate and interact with all levels of employees, customers and suppliers
- Ability to work effectively with people
Licensure
Valid driver’s license
Safety
Safety glasses and hearing protection required. Other safety equipment required on an as needed basis.

Working environment of this position are those typical of an office setting and manufacturing environment.
Physical Demands
Physical requirements of this position are those typical of a manufacturing environment. Job requires very frequent visual effort and concentration, and the ability to move throughout the plant. The ability to lift 40 pounds is required. The work requires regular standing, moving about, and involves a variety of physical activities. Travel to customer locations as needed.
