Director of Operations, Mental Health Nonprofit
Location: San Francisco, CA
Schedule: 10:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends

Salary Range: $125,000–$135,000 annually
Healthcare Recruiters International is seeking an experienced Director of Operations, Mental Health Nonprofit for a respected nonprofit organization serving youth and families in San Francisco.
This senior leadership position will provide strategic and operational oversight across the organization. The Director of Operations will serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and oversee Finance, Human Resources, technology, facilities, compliance, administrative operations, and organizational systems.
The ideal candidate will bring strong nonprofit operations experience, sound business judgment, and the ability to improve systems, develop staff, and support the organization’s continued growth and long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership across the organization
- Oversee Finance, Human Resources, facilities, technology, compliance, administrative functions, and organizational systems
- Serve as an active member of the Executive Leadership Team
- Develop and improve operational policies, procedures, workflows, and internal systems
- Strengthen communication and collaboration across departments
- Identify opportunities to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness
- Supervise, support, and develop administrative and operational staff
- Help ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, contracts, and organizational policies
- Support financial planning, budgeting, risk management, and long-term organizational sustainability
- Advance the mission and strategic priorities of Horizons Unlimited of San Francisco
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Human Resources, Finance, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
· Minimum of 6 years of progressive nonprofit operational leadership, administrative leadership, or related management experience.
· Experience in a community-based nonprofit, preferably in behavioral health, mental health, healthcare, human services, or related settings.
· Experience supporting programs serving youth, young adults, families, underserved communities, and the broader community.
· Strong knowledge of behavioral health, mental health, substance use treatment, prevention, social services, or community-based programming.
· Demonstrated experience with government-funded programs, grants, contracts, and regulatory compliance.
· Experience overseeing or managing HR, finance, compliance, contracts, facilities, technology, and broader organizational operations.
· Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing staff.
· Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and organizational change initiatives.
· Strong project management, organizational leadership, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong financial, operational, and strategic planning experience.
· Ability to manage multiple operational functions and competing priorities.
· Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
· Ability to develop practical systems and improve organizational processes.
· Commitment to supporting a mission-driven organization serving youth, families, and the community.
· Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
