Job Overview
The SUD Counselor is responsible for the support and mentoring of clients. SUD Counselors will provide ongoing support and expertise through comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, implementation and overall evaluation of individual client needs while enhancing the quality of patient management and satisfaction. SUD Counselors are to always promote the continuity of care through integrating individualized case management, weekly reviews and discharge planning. Act as the central receiver of pertinent clinical data and works closely with the Clinical Director in the formulation of treatment planning, immediately responding to a crisis and planning for the needs of clients to ensure efficacy of service delivery. SUD Counselor must be flexible and able to come in while on call for an emergency and be open to schedule changes when required (example: mandatory staff meetings).
Responsibilities:
- Communicate weekly with family, referral sources regarding client progress and/or changes (as allowed via client consent)
- Intake
- Assessments
- Interdisciplinary team coordination
- Compose and enter weekly progress notes for each client
- Compose and enter daily group notes for clients
- Case management duties
- Participate in scheduled site visits
- Crisis Intervention
- Documentation and treatment plan reviews
- Preparation of group materials and researching new methodologies for inclusion in group and individual sessions
- Help maintain cleanliness of all facilities
- Other duties as assigned
Clinical:
- Assess and make recommendations regarding clients level of care
- Makes recommendations regarding continuing and aftercare
- Follow up and monitor aftercare recommendations
- Conduct family meetings
- Assist clients in life skills and case management tasks
- Daily educational and/or experiential client groups
- Create and implement clients schedule into program and communicates client’s needs
- Coordinate admissions and discharges with Clinical Director and Executive Director
- Attend all mandatory clinical and staff meetings
- Collaborate with Clinical Director regarding any and all consequences for clients
Compliance/Certification/Licensing:
- Abide by all DHCS, company polices, accreditation standards and all state and federal governing agencies
- Maintain an active certification / license
- Attend industry related workshops, trainings, and conferences (prior approval required)
Minimum Qualifications and Required Certification:
- Current certification through a licensed certified board of alcohol and drug counseling educator or registered RADT-1 and attending school working towards certification.
- One to three years of experience as a SUD Counselor with strong professional references attesting to a high degree of clinical sophistication
- Advanced knowledge of Twelve Step treatment model and its application in treatment
- Specific knowledge helpful in process addiction and treatment resources
- Advanced assessment, treatment planning, discharge planning, and documentation skills
- Knowledge of dual diagnosis treatment practices including non-pharmacological symptoms management techniques
- Current certification in First Aid/CPR
- TB test
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
There is some walking, bending, and kneeling which may occur with long periods of sitting in vehicle while transporting; must be able to participate in moderate lifting of 30 or more pounds (suitcases, packages, etc.). This position must be able to support client weight in case of emergency situation or client disability requiring assistance in walking, etc. There is a risk of exposure to bodily fluids infections, contagious / blood borne diseases, and chemicals (cleaning agents), an exposed risk to highway accidents, and an exposed risk to varying, unpredictable situations (i.e. client behavior).
Position Classification: Exempt
Pay: $23.00 - $33.00 per hour
