The primary functions of the Development Director will be to advance the fundraising and philanthropic priorities of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County. This position is responsible for developing strong relationships with individuals, corporations, foundations, community leaders, and other partners to generate philanthropic support for the organization’s mission, strategic priorities, and long-term growth.
A key initial focus will be supporting fundraising for capital expansion initiatives, including the Tradition Clubhouse and redevelopment of the Fort Pierce Clubhouse.
The duties and responsibilities are, but not limited to, the following:
Capital Fundraising & Strategy
- Develop and execute fundraising strategies aligned with organizational priorities, capital projects, and long-term growth.
- Build and manage a strong portfolio of current and prospective donors.
- Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals, corporations, foundations, and community partners.
- Develop strategies to move prospective donors from initial engagement to meaningful, long-term philanthropic partnerships.
- Conduct donor meetings, presentations, site visits, tours, and other cultivation and stewardship activities.
- Prepare compelling proposals, presentations, case statements, and other donor materials.
- Establish and maintain measurable fundraising goals and regularly evaluate progress toward those goals.
- Identify new fundraising opportunities and partnerships that expand philanthropic support for the organization.
- collaborate with the Chief Development & Communications Officer and CEO on strategies for engaging high-capacity prospects and campaign leadership.
- Manage relationships with assigned donors and potential supporters.
- Conduct regular visits with donors, tours of our facilities, presentations, and meetings to build connections.
- Create strong relationships with business leaders, community organizations, foundations, elected officials, and local stakeholders.
- Represent the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County at community meetings, networking events, donor gatherings, and organizational events.
- Work with campaign volunteers, board members, and leadership to improve fundraising efforts and grow community support.
Development Operations
- Maintain accurate donor records, contact reports, and prospect activity within the organization's Customer Relationship Management (CRM).
- Monitor fundraising activity, donor engagement, and pipeline progress to ensure strategic movement toward fundraising goals.
- Work collaboratively with the Resource Development and Communications teams to ensure consistent donor messaging and engagement strategies.
Team Collaboration
- Support organization-wide fundraising initiatives as needed.
- Collaborate with communications staff to develop campaign messaging, donor recognition, and stewardship opportunities.
- Contribute to the overall strategic growth of the Development Department through innovative fundraising ideas and relationship-building strategies.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
Requirements:
- Must submit to and pass Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Children & Families.
- Must pass the pre-employment drug test
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field (preferably Marketing, Public or Community Relations)
- Minimum years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, business development, sales, nonprofit leadership, relationship management, or a related field.

- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team. Strong proficiency with computers, desktop publishing, database entry, and full Microsoft Office suite, email, and the internet

- Confidence in initiating and advancing donor relationships
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable developing new relationships.
- Ability to use technology across assigned departments and support adoption of new systems and processes as organizational needs evolve.
Some travel may be required for training and/or other business purposes.
Working Conditions
Our offices, neighborhood clubhouses, and school-based clubs are fast-paced work environments and are strategically located in areas of St. Lucie County where youth need us most. Based on the organization's needs, flexibility to work different schedules and work in different locations in St. Lucie County is required due to changing business demands. The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping/kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, and finger dexterity.

This position requires extended talking, listening, sitting, walking, and standing; computer viewing, and keyboard entry. Regularly lifting up to 25 pounds.

Daily operation of personal motor vehicle relevant to carrying out job duties is required for this position.
