SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION
Works under the direction of the Finance Director and Accounting Supervisor. Processes various payments and assists customers with payments and questions. Prepares daily bank deposit. Input invoices in the City’s accounts payable system and process checks. Answers incoming telephone calls and routes to proper department. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Opens, closes, and balances cash registers. Prepares daily bank deposit. Distributes incoming mail for all departments. Maintains account payable, input, and balance. Performs internal audits of invoices and receipts submitted by the various departments. Assists with the preparation of 1099’s. Answers incoming telephone calls and routes to proper department. Issues various permits. Scans documents and maintains files. General customer service and clerical duties. Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to sit, stand, and move inside the building. Ability to sit or stand at a counter or desk in order to process paperwork and receive monies.
REQUIRED CONTACTS
Employee will communicate with citizens in order to explain policies and procedures relating to payment of bills and other services.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Ability to read and understand computer functions in order to process payments. Skill to effectively communicate with the public in order to receive payments and answer questions. Ability to operate a variety of machines including personal computers, calculators, and cash registers. Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to keep accurate files and records. Ability to multi-task. Detail oriented and ability to accurately perform all assigned duties. Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION
High School diploma or equivalent; six months to one year experience in a clerical position with data entry and bookkeeping. Accounting knowledge is preferred.
