United Chemical Technology (UCT) is looking for a Controller. This position is located in our corporate facility in Bristol, PA.
UCT was founded in 1986 by one of the pioneers of Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), Michael Telepchak, who is still active in the Company and in the field. UCT is a world leading specialty chemical manufacturing company with products that serve the environmental, forensics, food and beverage, clinical, pharma, biopharma, and cannabis industries.
The Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate internal and external reporting of financial transactions via preparation of consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) together with interim compliance reports for the Company’s bank. They will establish good relationships with the executive management team as well as the Company’s bankers, accounting firm, consultants (including risk management agents and IT specialists), and key vendors and maintain vigilance for compliance with and potential updates to the Company’s internal controls, as designed. Treasury management, including international transactions, also falls within the bailiwick of the Controller.
The Controller will also support executive management by coordinating the issuance of an annual review report and the filing of annual income tax returns with the Company’s independent accountants, filing information returns (e.g., Form 5500) drafted by third-party service providers, preparing budgets and forecasts, related variance analyses, and benchmarking to drive efficiencies and cost containment. In addition, occasional government survey requests will be handled by the Controller.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for all personnel in the accounting/purchasing department
- Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of openness, trust, and productivity.
- Manage all accounting data for system input and related issues in Sage
- Prepare consolidated financial statements and compliance reports
- Support the annual review report and annual income tax returns as prepared by the Company’s independent accountants
- Prepare the annual budget and provide variance analysis as needed by senior management
- Establish financial and operating benchmarks, program monitoring, and reporting standards on interim bases
- Work with Company’s banking institution to provide quarterly financial statements and compliance reports, updates on Company status, and secure loans, as needed
- Work with insurance companies and facilities managers to ensure Company is being provided the most efficient rates and renewals
- Work with shipping companies to negotiate competitive annual shipping rates Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures while remaining knowledgeable of proposed changes to regulations
- Analysis of current procedures and policies and propose changes and cost saving measures, as necessary
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets workflows, as necessary
- Manage state/local tax reporting requirements, prepare annual Forms 1096 and 1099, and electronically file annual Forms 5500
Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or equivalent) in Accounting
- 6 – 10 years of accounting/finance experience
- Professional certifications, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) are preferrable, but not required
- Interpreting new accounting standards to determine the impact on the Company
- experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable
- Knowledge of and experience with Sage ERP systems and Avalara services is highly desirable
- Strong analytical skills
- Multi-tasking – working on and completing several projects concurrently with limited supervision while prioritizing critical paths and projects
- Interpersonal skills, including collaboration and communication
- Maturity and professionalism to keep senior management informed on a timely basis and to bring solutions Together with the issues

Pay: $108,771.00 - $140,000.00 per year
